Wow, the Hedo you described is not the Hedo I'm familiar with, but different times of year and different mixes of people can make a huge difference in your experience. Not everyone is a Hedo person, some folks are Desire people.

Regarding the rest of the negatives I am actually looking forward to a less upscale environment. It is one reason we decided against Desire although the two class system there put us off too (member versus nons). I get tired of the pretensiousness of a more upscale hotel or resort. And did I mention the company I work for is no longer testing for marijuana haha? That should add an interesting dynamic to the trip if I choose to partake (not sure if I will or not as it has been a long, long time since i have). Anyway, too bad it didnt work for you.

Unfortunately we agree with Hank in many aspects of his report. We were there the same week and also felt the resort was Loud all the time. It was almost sensory overload with the music and multiple loud conversations because people are screaming over the music. This was our 5th trip so we knew what we were getting into. We find that the pool by the prude grill is a great place to hangout talk and relax until later in the afternoon when we head to the nude pool.
I have always gotten some type of chest or nasal infection after each trip to hedo due to the mold except from this year because we upgraded to a one of the new rooms with a new air conditioner. And we get a room on the nude side by the pool so we do not have to use the nude pool bathrooms.
I had a nice conversation with a giggling group of 20 somethings on Fri lobster night for taking pictures of my wife in her costume...they did not ask. I was livid and made the girl delete the photo and threatened to get security. It turns out they were there on a night pass and assumed we all liked having our picture taken. Really!
I notified the front desk in hopes they would convey all the Hedo rules to day and night pass guests.
We had waited three years to return to Hedo for this trip hoping that the improvements would be more noticeable. We didn't feel that they were so after this trip we decided to give it another three years in hopes it will be better.
I am a beach person. Love the beach. Prude beach is better for swimming and snorkeling, but neither beach was bad to floating and lounging. With a little common sense and care, sea urchins are easy to avoid. I highly recommend the catamaran for a snorkeling trip by the reef. Fun times.Quote:

Is the beach that bad....it depends if you are expecting a nice area to wade around in the water. The beach itself is nice, it's once you get into the water you have to carefully step around the dark areas that have the sea weed and urchins. We used a float all of the time and just tried to get on it right away and float around the area. If I had not been to some of the beautiful beaches that you can play around nude in, like the Couples Negril resort around the corner where we played water frisbee in the nude and just stayed in the water for long periods of time, walking, swimming and relaxing, maybe I would't have minded Hedo's beach but it's pretty hard to overlook or not think about your past experiences, especially if you ARE beach people as we are. Just my thoughts. You will still be able to get on a float and enjoy the water but it's limited in my mind. Up to you what you like in a vacation. I was hoping to see a better area to play in the water but we made the best of it and still enjoyed it.Quote:

Ok well it doesn't sound horrible but not like the beaches of St Martin which is a "traditional" beach. Just kidding, Phillygirl. I know what you mean by saying sea urchins and seaweed is a "traditional" beach and it is why I put traditional in quotes. The whole world can't be groomed for all us spoiled Americans. i am sure it will be just fine for us since we live in chicago. In other words there is no way we can call ourselves beach people. Besides we already purchased airfare so we are going no matter what.

We have stayed at many resorts in Jamaica, Not at Hedo yet though. From our experience, if you want a resort with a private beach then you have to go top Montego bay or somewhere else. 7mi beach from what I understand is public, so as annoying as the beach merchants get sometimes, no ocean front resort in negril is exempt from it (that I know of). Also the smoking and the It's irie mon, Thats just Jamaica for you some people love and some don't, but its why we keep going back.
Sorry to hear you had a bad time, we went for the first time in April, no expectations! Had a fabulous time! Hoping to get back in November for trip#2. Bad experiences can really put adamper on things especially when you pay big money! Again sorry to hear about you bad experiences!
