    Dunns river falls

We went to Hedo II last Jan and will be returning this January as well.....we are considering taking one of the precious days and going to the falls...has anyone done this? is it worth a day away? How long did it REALLY take?

We did the Dunns River climb 2 years ago while staying at Sandals in Ocho. I'm not sure of the drive from HII but I can say that the falls will take at least a couple hours once you're there.
When we went we had heard about it, but thought they meant something other than actually climbing up through the falls when they said that. Make no mistake you will be climbing up a waterfall through the water.
It was fun, and we aren't in terrible shape so it wasn't too tough. YOu do need either water shoes or tennis shoes to go.

    Hope that helps some.

We did Dunn's River Falls a few years back when we were staying at "another resort". Like 2Fast says - you actually climb up the falls in the water. It is very beautiful and is not physically challenging if you are any sort of decent shape at all. You do need special shoes but you can actually rent a pair on site. We took a taxi and he actually waited for us - we don't liked to be tied to a bus tour schedule. We tend to be able to see tourist areas faster on our own - not consuming as much of our vacation time away from a resort. It does take 1.5 - 2 hours. The only negative we had on the tour was that there are vendors that are very pushy selling the usual tourist fare. You have to walk through this "market" area to get out of the park. We didn't like their pushiness - NO did not seem to be in their vocabulary! If you have never done the "Falls" it is a worthwhile Jamaican attraction.

Dunns River Falls is about 1/2hr-45 minutes from H3...I would guestimate the bus from H2 would be approx. 3 1/2 hrs each way plus time at the falls...so it would be an all day excursion. I have heard that there is a YS Falls?? close to Hedo 2 and Negril that are nice as well and apparently quite comparable...just not as world famous.

They are pushy, we used the "we're not allowed to bring wood home to Canada" excuse.

Pretty sure you don't HAVE to walk through the little village; we were greeted by a guy who talked us into following him down a path that leads to the village, but I believe you can just follow the road to the left to by-pass it.

We were at H2 this past June and did the the falls, its pretty much a day trip. The bus ride was about an hour and then its a good couple hours walking but the falls are somethng to see. the quides did a good job with taking pictures and video for a small fee. All and all not a bad day trip.

Dudntine...did you do YS Falls or Dunn river?...if it was an hour trip I'm confused...Mobay to H3 is about 1 1/2 and I can't believe they got you from Negril to Dunn's in an hour...Just want to make sure we're talking the same falls

Just looked through our photos from Dunn's River:

Looks like we left H3 around noon, went on a small shopping trip to Ocho Rios till 1:30p, then did Dunn's River Falls. Left Dunn's River around 3:30p and arrived back to H3 at 4:00pm.

Add the time between H2 and H3 and you're all set!

We went to the falls a few years ago while staying in Montego Bay. I suggest you save this trip while staying at H3. It was a long drive from Montego Bay. You would spend most of your day driving. The drivers are crazy. I did manage live, but the drive was a thrill itself. Unless you are into extreme sports and LONG drives.
