Good Morning,
Were looking at a first time trip to Mardi Gras this coming year. Can anyone give us suggestions on where to stay? Other than the nightly festivities, what else is a must. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

are you going to Mobile, Al., New Orleans, or Pensacola, Fl.
Your welcome, Mardi Gras was started in Mobile. New Orleans gets the tourists. I personally don't like it there because of the crowds being so overwhelming. You are literally in a sea of moving people during parades. Mobile has parades every night and parties everyday but Joe Kane day is on Sunday before Fat Tues. it 's a great party. Pensacola has a parade Fri., Sat., and a 3rd. one Sun. on Pensacola Bch. The intown parades are fun but the beach parade is pretty wild. We are in a Krewe so we get to see everything first hand.
If you are going to drive down or get a rental, I would suggest hitting all 3 places it's only about a 3 hr. drive from N.O. to Pensacola and you go right through Mobile on the way.
CNR,
Let' do Pensacola!
WE WILL GO WITH YOU!
Pensacola is on our list of places we HAVE to visit and check out for retirement possibilities. SO help us kill 2 birds with one stone?
What dates?
I will get some dates together for you.
Last year we visited N.O for a week, and then flew on to hedo. We can recomend "the greenhouse inn" which is on Magazine street in the garden district. It has a clothing optional pool, and is only about 15 mins walk into the french quarter. P.M us if you would like bit more info.

Cplchillin is a friend of mine. I am president of our Mardi Gras Krewe that we are all in together. It is a freakin' party...
Pensacola is a party, plus the beaches are awesome even in the winter...

We currently live in Mobile, and have experienced many Mardi Gras parades and balls here. You will have an outstanding time in Mobile, as you will in Pensacola or New Orleans. I suggest staying downtown Mobile at either the Hampton Inn (brand new), the Battle House Inn (managed by Rennaissance) or the Riverview Plaza (also a Rennaissance hotel). All of these are on the parade route. I think Fat Tuesday is February 12 in 2010.
