    Cigarette prices

Does anyone know how much cigarettes cost in Jamaica. Just wondering if it's cheaper to bring them from the states. Hard to believe they could cost more there though.

And as I recall back to my smoking days, I do not think they were made in America, though they were American name brands.

brannen had to buy a couple packs while at the resort, they were 8$ per pack, and he said they sucked. burnt faster than the ones from home, i don't smoke so not sure what that really means, but i am just passing on what he said.

If I remember correctly, when we were there last year we took our own, we couldn't buy at the airport on arrival the store is on the other side of security.... Now when we left the airport we purchased a 5 carton box that I believe was $105. That was a deal. we declared them when when got to the US they didn't give us any problems.

Purchase them in the duty free shop at the airport you depart stateside from, just like buying liquor, no problems, delivered to the aircraft.

Like everyone has said $8 pack at resort and they are very dry and stale !! I would pack plenty and remember to factor in you will be drinking which usually ups consumption--we fell short first trip !!

The tobacco in cigarettes that you buy abroad might be locally sourced (not USA tobacco) even if they are American Brands (Marlboro, etc). For example if you take a vacation in the Philippines, you can buy really cheap packs of Marlboros made from local tobacco (weaker taste) or you can buy some of the imported stuff at the airport Duty Free shops or at the bigger hotels that comes from the States (the ones with the import duty sticker on them).

If you are importing smokes into Jamaica, you might want to check the gov't customs website to see how much you can bring in without having to pay anything.

Okay, I jut googled it and according to this: http://www.jacustoms.gov.jm/home_tem...id=1&id=2&cid=
You can bring in 10 packs/200 sticks per passenger without paying any customs duty.

We've taken 4 cartons in checked baggage to resort for 10 days stay without a problem at customs. The 200 stick limit is more for returning Jamaicans..much like each country has a limit on your duty free...vacationers for personal use we have never had a problem...till this year...we've quit YAAAY!

And Yes, the cigarettes there are made in the Dominican (although US brands) so they are "different"
