I would like to know what has worked best as far as booking a trip to HIII. Book early and hope the prices don't drop? Book airfare and resort together? Go through a travel agent? Do prices tend to drop during off peak for peak dates? etc.....

Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. Some people deal directly with Superclubs, others book everything with a TA, and then some of use do more leg work on our own. Depends on how much you want to be part of the booking process.
Superclubs prices generally don't change much from what their websites posts; they do have specals that come and go (some very good, others, eh?). Most people have their travel agents of choice that they use. Get quotes from a few of them and compare; also check on no-bumping if you are going during a crowded time. Airfare will drive you crazy! One minute you think its a good deal and then whamo, the prices jump a hundred bucks or so for no reason. Can't figure how they determine it.
I know this didn't help much other than to say that there is no set way of doing things. You'll get a lot of advice from others on the board with their specific recommendations.
I would sat that we have run the gambit. We have booked our own air, we have let the Travel Agent book it, the only thing consistent in our 8 completed trips is that we always use a Travel Agent to book the resort. It is our experience that they have had the lowest rates, even lower than Super Clubs themselves. Whenever Super Clubs has offered specials, like the current one and the recent buy 4 get the 5th night free promotion. Our Travel Agent beat Super Clubs rates by $200 or more. Your mileage may vary.
