appleton 12 to be enjoyed neat.(warm, sipped no mixer)
captains mixed with coke, sprite, or cranberry
malibu and pineapple(it's a pussy drink but so good and simple)

as for hurricanes if they don't taste like shit you are making them wrong, they were originally from pat o reilly's in new orleans, and they are based around pouring enough sugar into rum to be drinkable.

a true hurricane has light rum, dark rum, gold rum, orgeat syrup(nut syrup, amaretto or creme de noyaix works in a pinch) grenadine, lime juice, orange juice floater.

i am not a fan of bacardi as i don't like dry liquor. and i used to be a fan of 151 and i can tell you that there is only one way to mix it--farm fresh apple cider

I forgot to add a tasty rum from Cuba, is Havana Club anejo. Not sweet like Appleton's,but has a really smooth oak barrel taste.I have to get it in Mexico.

Malibu and CPT Morgan are what we buy all the time.
Appleton is WOW! cannot wait to go back and get some more!

The flavored rum is great when mixing with different flavors too!

    Hidden treasure for rum lovers

With apologies to all Jamaican rum lovers, my Puerto Rican father-in-law has passed on to his daughter his love for the most popular rum in Puerto Rico, Don Q. It is very hard to come by in the U.S., although one can find it in the South (we have found it in Florida and Texas, in addition to receiving family gifts from the island). While my wife and father-in-law prefer the light and will accept the dark, my favorite is the Anejo -- which, interestingly enough, we found in Mexico. (My wife also has a fondness for Don Q Coco, which also came from a Mexican trip and is incredibly smooth.)

Our good friends went shopping during our last trip to H3 and brought back a BUNCH of bottles of Appleton's Master Blender's Legacy. That is some VERY fine rum. I love my VX, I was delighted to discover this past winter that one of our local liquor stores carries the Appleton's 12 year. The 21 year is fantastic... but if you want to experience something really incredible, pick up some Master Blender's Legacy next time you are in JA.

I hate the fact that very few bars carry a decent rum and I have to settle for Captain Morgan - but it is at least drinkable - in a pinch.

    Rum

I found a great rum from Guyana at my liquor store.

Called El Dorado, my store stocks a 7 year old and a 12 year old. Both are fantastic on the rocks, but the 12 is much smoother and flavourful.

In Canada we also get Havana Club. I picked a $100 bottle of 21 year old last time i was in cuba, that stuff is so smooth you can drink it neat and not have the burn

My love affair with aged rum began in the Dominican on a Brugal rum factory tour, and i still by the Brugal frequently.

I liked this one a lot. Brought back a big bottle from our June trip to Costa Rica. I drank this almost exclusively while we were there.
