Cigarettes, Maybe Dumb Question

Me and my husband are social smokers when we drink. Iwas wondering how many packs you can bring in through customs or can you find Marlboro lights there with out paying twice as much?

You can buy cigs in the gift shop but they are $7-8/pack (USD).

Where ever we have traveled to the islands in the past we take a carton each in our check in bags. You are each allowed to check in the 10 packs. Have not asked how many you can carry on.

We carry on a carton + each trip, and its never been an issue, if you buy them on the resort, they are pricey.

We put a couple of cartons in our checked luggage and had no issues !! And you DON'T want the ones at resort if you can help it.....overpriced and dried out !! Their selection is not great but I do remember Marlboro Lights being in gift shop. and $12 a pack in Canada--OMG---we pay 31.99 a carton for Marlboro here in Tennessee !

They started allowing lighters again in August of 2007 I believe it was ! Tim Air made us put them in our checked baggage ( which was right next to me on the plane---so I don't understand but OK ! )

Back in the day when I was a smoker, I had to purchase a pack or 2 from the gift shop, to say they were not the quality I was used to in the US is an understatement. There was something on the package that made me believe they were not made in the USA. In a pinch of a long stay, I managed to get by.

In Toronto I pay $18.30 for 2 packs!!

Anyway - I always have a pack & a lighter in my purse or carry-on and a carton in my bag. I always run out, and had to purchase a couple packs there - I recall them being ridiculously priced... but still cheaper than what I pay at home!

Don't forget that a ziploc is a wonderful waterproof case for your cigs & lighter when poolside

I try to pick them up when we go shopping in Ocho Rios...you can barter a bit with them....I get Cohiba smokes from Cuba...very good but strong.I usually get some little cigars here in case I don't get to shop right off the bat. $12.25 here in Eastern Canada...we must all be nuts lol

Best bet is to take what you need (first trip we went 14 days...took 2 cartons each in checked luggage)...in 5 trips to Jamaica, never had a search on entry, as long as the quantity is for personal use you should be OK.
Earlier this month lighters in pocket were not a problem (previous year they were)
Cigarettes sold in gift shop are made in the Dominican, so a bit different than the US made variety.
