    A question to the Vets

We made our first trip this past May and had a ball already booked for May 2009, now I am a fan of tattoos i have 21 already and am looking for a little help for the next one.
the saying "IRIE", I know what it means but how is it more commonly used :

"Everything is Irie" or "Its all Irie" ?

    Thanks for help

I'm not an expert on patois, but we've been to Jamaica around 30 times & have picked up a little info here & there. You might be looking for the phrase...

"All is Irie" for your ink.

Alternately, "Everyting is Irie" might be the other phrase you are looking for. Or just "Irie"

The particular weblink below is an interesting history of some Rasta vocab & patois. Here is a quote from that site,

"An "I" also makes any word become more spiritual and sacred and "irie" is a great example of this. "Irie" (pronounced eye-ree), is the ultimate positive. One definition of irie has three parts which all greatly represent the positive factor or the "I"; (I) powerful and pleasing, (2) excellent, highest, and (3 ) the state of great feeling. Also, in Rasta talk "all is irie" means nothing could be better and "irie heights" or "Ites," are equivalent to the Christian belief of heaven or, to a strongly uplifting spiritual feeling. Additionally, "I" used in combination with other words glorifies them and by substituting "I" for a syllable Rastas create their own meanings such as; changing "power" to "I owner," "thunder" to "I-under," and "total" to "I-tal.""

Or this site with an urban dictionary....

    Good luck!

Only 3 trips so far, so not really a "vet" but I'd do something more along the lines of "Everything Irie" and drop the "is" all together.

Even that doesn't really capture the patois. More like "Evahting Irie" but that looks more like a tattooist goof.

As a Jamaican I would say "Everyting Irie" meaning everything is alright. You could also use "Irie" which is sometimes used as a greeting like saying hi.

As a born Jamaican myself, i'd go with just "Irie"
If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before
