Why do people, in general fear the unkown?

What is it that makes us fear, or step lightly into the unknown?

Many things my friend, instinct being the basis, is in all of us. A lot of it is learned behaviour from our peers, our education or lack of, and seeing it with our own eyes. Fear is another part of us that is ok, just as love, kindness, faith, etc. It holds some of us back and drives others. Some people believe in a world with no fear, no hate, no tragedy, no judgement, but do they ever really stop and think about it. I doubt it. It' s like poloitical BS. It sounds good when its being talked about but in reality it will never happen.
We fear a world without Hedo.

Simple...it's part of human nature. Everyone has a human nature and fear is a big part of it. How we handle it is a measure of our maturity.

Some don't fear the unknown, they are more curious about it, which is where your best inventions and idea's come from.
    Also your serial killers.

LOL at the serial killer joke.

But, seriously... Some people like having a stable, secure, non-changing environment. Changes can bring instability. Unknown factors lead to unknown results, which can scare the crap out of some people.

Some people, like me, like to explore new horizons. It's a way to learn. And ya never know what new fun things are out there.

A friend has an email sign-off that reads "If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done."

    I like that.

Some people are too worried about what other people think! If you could take this one fear away, imagine how different things could be!

Some people are just control freaks; some are just timid by nature; some just loathe change. I think a lot of people are "afraid" because they simply don't know the facts, or details, of a situation and are afraid either of looking silly or biting off more than they can chew - don't like flying without a net, so to speak. I know I do sometimes - but I just start asking questions (I *am* the original Curious George - lol!) and getting the answers I need to make me feel like I have at least some idea of what I'm about to get into. But at some point, it seems to me, you either accept that you have to just step off that ledge into the unknown - be a little lighthearted and able to laugh at yourself - or shrivel up from boredom in your little cocoon of safe, unchanging sameness!!!

Personally, I'd rather stick a fork in my eye and get it over with than not shake things up a bit every now and then and try/learn/taste/see/experience new things, places and people.

CopnKitten can tell ya - they were one of the first ones to answer my very first questions about Hedo. (Too funny about the serial killers, Paul!!) Ditto JANewbies - (hey!)

PRK-66 is right - a friend of mine always says "If you keep doing what you've always done, you're going to keep getting what you always get."

Words to live by ... !!
