    Hedo and Drinking

My husband and I are considering our first ever trip to Hedo II/III... While reading the trip reports, some of them contain accounts of large consumptions of alchohol. We are not big drinkers by any means, and are a little cautious about booking a trip with so much drinking/drunkeness taking place. We are not party poopers by any means, we just choose not make alchohol a central theme to having a good time.

Can we reasonably expect to have a good time with minimal drinking, or will we be outcasts and shunned by others?

We are just looking to have a good time, celebrate our 14th aniversary, and try something completely out of the box.

    What have your experiences been?

You can most assuredly expect to have a great time with minimal drinking. There are plenty of other folks just like you who consume little to no alcohol while at Hedo.
Alcohol is certainly available and there are lots of partiers who sample the various drinks, but my experience has been that you don't see very many people who are falling-down drunk. If they get to that point, they end up crashing back at their rooms. What you do see is lots of people who are having a great time partying.

I think you can forget the thoughts about being shunned by others -- that's not the Hedo experience. Just order a coke or 7-up and stand around at the bar socializing -- no one will care. My wife often orders virgin daquiris, etc. I moderate my drinking so that I'm never out of control, just a little relaxed! I've never felt like an outcast -- on the contrary, we've met lots of great new friends.

You'll have a great time with each other and will probably meet other people who are similar to you.

All the Willie Nelson fans smoke dope in lieu of alcoholic beverages. The locals start marketing their weed as soon as you enter the airport. Biff was using the airport restroom and the janitor offered him some "smoke". Then the bus driver, the guy at the bar stop, then the bellman, and so on. The most bizarre sales technique was on the nude beach at Hedo III when some guy on the other side of the wall separating the Hedo III property from the rest of the world stuck his hand thru a 5" hole and offered a baggie of ganja. He said: "Take it mon, it gooooood stuff". He trusted us to pass him the money back thru the hole. Since we do not partake of "shit, smoke, weed, ganja, mary jane or whatever", we just laughed and said no thank you to the faceless dude on the other side of the wall.

Stay sober, and maybe you will remember your most excellent and wicked vacation. We usually remember the first day and the last day, and the rest is a blur of purple rains, body shots on the bar, sex in the grotto, the pussy fountain shows, and consuming mass quantities.... (we are Coneheads)

The gentleman on the other side of the fence has long been referred to in our group as the "pssssssssssst" guy. He's a fixture- we do not partake in anything he has to sell either- but it is funny. We went with a friend last year who does not drink at all either- but she had an amazing time.
Yes, there is drunkenness, but even in that atmosphere people who get fall down drunk are still somewhat out of place. Usually someone cuts them off and if they make an ass out of themselves they hear about it the rest of the trip. No worries- if anyone does something inappropriate, people will circle the wagons for you.

We went in April and my wife hardly drinks at all. She fit in great. We had big drinkers, moderate drinkers and non drinkers in our group and we all got along fine. I really didn't see anyone get snot slinging drunk, just pleasantly buzzed.

Don't drink too much to the point you won't remember the next day. You may end up doing things in public you never meant to do. Heck no one really cares, but you might.

We did a few things in full drunken stupor we weren't proud of and when we go back less alcohol and more sex will definietly be had, just not so blantly and not so regretfuly.

Hopeyou have fun, get naked, enjoy each other and if it floats your boat with others too.

    It's Your Vacation

I get tired when I drink, so 9PM I switch to soda, pop, soda pop, (insert nonalcoholic beverage here).
For me, there is FAR too much fun to be had after 2AM to be sleeping (unless she is REALLY hot!!)

Bottom line: As with everything at HEDO, there is no real judgment. Have fun the way YOU want and screw everyone else...LOL

    or not
    definitely!
    as needed.

    and when al else fails...

    Enjoy!

You know, until this question came up, I never stopped to consider the amount of drunken behavior at Hedo. Now that the question is out there, I can't really think of any overt signs of people being blasted on our last two trips. Despite the fact that alcohol is everywhere and "free", people behave really well. Quite remarkable if you think about it. I see far more problems at social events back in the "real" world.

In my opinion, the OP has nothing to worry about.

    Thumbs up

Spent 2 of 7 previous trips liquor free, one due to illness the other, just didn't feel like drinking. Had a good time mon, its Hedo. Go, limit your intake as you choose, you will have a blast. Most folks are non judgmental and will support your choices.

I jus wan go home mon!

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. This is definitely helped in making the decision to go to Hedo easier. We are moving forward and booking our trip for the last week in July. Hope to see some of you there!
