    Piano bar

So now that Glen is gone is the piano bar worth going to?

Like most things at hedo, it is about the crowd you are with. We spent a couple nights last August in the piano bar with a relatively small crowd and had a FANTASTIC time. We were with friends and some group members and could not stop laughing. John is a different cat than Glen, and works a little differently, but he is still fun. We will definitely be visiting the piano bar again this August.

We miss Glen, but we still love the piano bar. John does a pretty good job and when we were there in March he had a few new songs from last August. One in particular we like quite a bit.

We did get a kick out of one thing though. Laura noticed that whenever he does not know the tune for a song he plays a variation on the same tune. We grew to call it the oompa loompa. It was a repeating pattern of 4 notes sounding like oompa loompa that he varied the speed to sort of match the song someone would request. I never noticed until Laura pointed it out to me, and then after that is was a good source of amusement.

One way or another we always find ways to have fun in the piano bar.

Not frequent piano bar patrons, but we have never had a bad time there. It really is about the company.

We had a great time five nights in a row with John. Everyone sang and had fun. Not only does the man do his best, but he is talented. He is not Glen, but everyone should stop making the comparison. Nothing lasts forever. Give the guy a break.

We were there at the end of March as well and always enjoyed the time in the piano bar. John does a good job and he got lots of folks involved in singing and laughing. It was usually crowded until the disco got going.

    SMV,

Good point, folks, even Hedo folks, do not like to have the things they have become used to, changed. I imagine, that the people who never saw or heard Glen have little to no issues with John.

I agree that John does a good job. Last August we thought he just needed to adapt to us Hedo folks. In March we found that he has come around and seems much more relaxed and at home. Heck - one night the AC was broken so he was playing piano practically shirtless

While we liked to make fun of the oompa-loompa, I wanted to point out that he at least tries to play any song you want. Obviously it was effective since I did not even notice it until it was pointed out to me - either that or I drank too much rum and was having too much fun to notice.

As long as we can still dance on the piano bar, then it's going to be a great time!!!

    as a musician...

although not a pianist, i will say that MANY songs have the same chord structures and progressions. that "oompa loompa" is probably the standard I IV found in most songs from about 1970 through 1989. That's a lotta years.

a funny youtube that illustrates this is the Pachelbel Rant - all musicians will really appreciate it.

my buddy who IS the pianist is doing piano bar at our lifestyles convention - yes, he has a pretty big set list, but if you walked up to him and said "can you play....", and he hadn't heard it...he'd have you sing a little bit of it and make up the chords from there.

it's kinda like singing the same stanzas on the Star Spangled Banner at a baseball game. You know it has to change, but you just don't know it.

as long as the mood is high and the music keeps going, everything is good. If the guy is playing piano bar, chances are he's not using any sheet music. You always have the option of googling a "guitar tab" or "chord chart" for your favorite song and bringing it along. If you give it to him one night, there's a good chance you'll get it the next night. Can't guarantee it, but i know my buddy would do just for shitsngiggles.

We were there in March ... The music was good and fun ... some nights the people were more fun than other nights. Its the people that make the piano bar fun and exciting ...
