First, J, consider the heat removed from you.
Second, as a big lover of freedom of speech, big hater of censorship, and not the most PC guy out there (actually I'm a Mac guy ;-)), I think this discussion is wonderful. Thank you Chris, for not censoring it. Thank you EHB for putting up the good fight.
I haven't read every word of this thread because I have limited internet access these days, but EHB is about 90% right and the rest of you are mostly wrong.
This "post-racial" concept in the news right now is bullshit. Race still matters and will for a long time, because race still has a bearing on economics and that's what ultimately matters.
The Beach comment wasn't as much about disliking black people in general as it was about keeping white pussy away from black dick. The sexual aspect raises the bar. I'm sure the guy has black neighbors, friends, former co-workers, etc. that he adores and who adore him, but if they wanted to hook up with his daughter, all hell would break out.
One of the finest people I've ever known (as pure a white Irish chick as the world has ever known) would give her right arm, a kidney, or half her heart to any of her black friends but if any of them dated her kids (the youngest is 40) she would take them out like Saddam.
I think it's time to drop most of the racial shit. I would take racial references out of the NAACP, every Black Student Association in every college in America, and I would even take the E out of EHB.
Chris is right in the sense that if you use race to describe yourself, don't be surprised when race is used by others to describe you.
