Just back recently from Desire Cancun. Hedonism II is more of a party place. There is always some craziness going on, exept maybe in the early morning when people are recovering from a long night.

Desire is more a place to relax and play with friends. We actually got bored here in the evening with no piano bar and no evening entertainment. The hot tub doesn't get going until the middle of the night.

I'd sure like to hear more about everyone's thoughts on this question. We have the same question. We've been to paradise (Hedo III) and are pretty much decided on this being our only vacation spot for the next 20 years. However, there's a part of us that wants to check out the other two places, Hedo II and Desires. There's not much out there on the web on Desires. I don't know, unless we hear something compelling, we'll be heading back to paradise in spring of next year.

Will have to argee with Dean on this. While Desires resort is very nice and the service was great, it is very tame compared to Hedo. So if you are looking for a place to go and relax in the sun with out the loud party, Desires might be for you. Just don't expect the same wild parties and silliness of Hedo. It is almost frowned upon there. Hedo get our vote!

Oh, forgot one thing....the whole reason we tried Desires after going to H2 twice in the last year was to not have to deal with creepy singles (and yes we know that most of you are not this way). Desires being couples only was a plus for us, but not sure it is worth giving up Hedo for..... Our 2 cents....

We have only been to Hedo III and like m & l said it is hard to go anywhere else when you know how much fun you are going to have there but I have heard wild stories about desire in chicago (may not be actually desire not positive) and thought about checking it out sometime just because it would be cheaper to drive there then fly to Jamaica. The one thing I have heard never expierencing it myself is that desire clubs tend to be more in your face and demanding on participating in different sexual expierences. Can't wait to get back to Hedo

We have made many friends at Hedonism II over the last 7 years, many of them are single - male and female. One reason we won't go to Desire as often is because our good single friends can't join us. We've never really had a problem with creepy single guys at Hedo.

I don't view Desire as being cheaper. Things NOT included at Desire: airport transfers, scuba, snorkeling, sailboats, kayaks. After adding the cost of some activities, the price is pretty much the same. Desire is much less activity oriented (non-sexual areas) than Hedo II. We got a little bored at times but then again it was also nice to just lay back, relax, read a book, and chat with friends.

It just depends on what you are looking for during your vacation.

thanks everyone for your input..i just read on one of the Desire sites you can't even swim in the ocean becaue of the currents....hell if i go to a resort i wanna play in the water some!!! and the price is way higher...looks like at Hedo III you can play as hard as you want or still relax as much....

Been at H3 two years ago, and Desire Cancun last year. Hedo 2 coming up in Feb. Basically, both are terrific experiences, choosing one over the other depends on what you 're into. Here goes:

HEDO (I will be generic as I think the Hedo experience is to a certain extent generic - H2 or H3)

-There is a prude side here, and some people tend to keep to that part / spirit of the resort. There 's still lots of "adult" games going on on that side, plus the wet t shirt contest, even the toga tying demonstration shoes much skin. BUT there is still an expectation that people be clad in something throughout what is the main part of the resort.

-The shows are for the most part very entertaining, the house band is great, and the hired talent, well, talented. One night at H3 we had a singer who used to be backup to Gladys Knight and the Pips. Super voice. if you want evening mainstream entertainment, then Hedo wins hands down.

-Guests - hedo attracks more of a middle class. the guests tend to be playful ie water pistols, etc.

-Food - comparable, but lunch is better as it is not restricted to grill food. Plus, at Hedo they will leave a bottle of wine with you at meal time. Room service restricted to continental breakfast (but the coffee is to die for!)

-Sexual atmosphere - Hedo caters to nudes and prudes, so it does not restrict itself to lifestylers and people interested in a sexual atmosphere. Sure you will witness (at least in the nude area) PDAs and PDSs but it really depends on the guests in attendance that week, plus the real stuff happens quite late at night (make that early in the morning) around the nude hot tub. You 'll come across strict Baptists at the resort, wondering how they got there!

-Accoutrements - Not everyone gets into the themes or dresses up (sexily) for dinner or the evening entertainment. PJ and Toga nights tend to generate more interest but again it depends on the guests. You can still find men dressed in jeans and a t shirt wearing a ball cap for dinner while their babes are dressed to the nines (low cut see through backless mini dresses).

-Activities - Hedo wins hands down. You have watersports available (and included) at the Hedos, but a silly Govt restriction for some reason prohibits DESIRE from making its water sports program (which they have) available (something about a study of the offshore reef).

-Staff - both resorts try hard and both are to be commended

-Facilities - Hedo is a four star (maybe three and a half) the rooms are fine.

    DESIRE

The resort is smaller and quite pretty and more luxurious. A very important thing to keep in mind is that the WHOLE resort is clothing optional. You can roll out of your room in the morning, head naked for the palapa BEDS (yep, full beds with sheets and overhead roof) right smack down on the beach, with full bar service right to your spot. You only have to wear clothing in the restaurants at meal time, and by clothing I mean something to cover your bum and perhaps your genitals (see through is OK)

-Food: Dinner is comparable to Hedo, with a slight edge to DESIRE in terms of luxuriousness for the a la carte restaurants. Lunch is far better at Hedo as it offers more than just pool side grill. Coffee is great at Desire, better at Hedo.

Entertainment - no shows at Desire, you head to the disco after dinner, so the disco scene is more active at Desire. In fact, the games in the disco are sexy and often those in the disco will wind up nude as a result. No piano bar either. Disco scene better at Desire, the rest better at Hedo where you have more options. Hedo has more daily activities, sexy games etc (at least on their schedule). The ECs are phenomenal at H3, Desire is quieter in that sense 'cos the guests make their own fun (and they do!)

Sex - the difference between Desire and Hedo is that at Hedo much of the sexual activity is playful, experimental, and to a certain extent illicit (ie sex police exists at Hedo, not at Desire). Desire markets itself specifically at Lifestylers, and "playing" is officially condoned in a room off the disco and also on a few palapa beds right next to the hot tub. There you will see everything, full on intercourse, threesomes, moresomes, etc and it 's all there for you to enjoy too. PDSs occur anywhere else at the resort (the palapa beach beds) but in a more discreet fashion.

Dress - People tend to dress up more, men as well as women. The ladies tend to dress more sexy but in a classy way.

Bonus - Desire is a fifteen minute drive from the airport, the Hedos over an hour.

Bottom line - Desire is a quieter resort but geared more to sex and lifestylers than the Hedos (believe it or not). It is also more luxurious, and the service is better in that you have formal beach bar service and well appointed restaurants. You can be nude the whole day throughout the resort. Hedo has a crazier atmosphere and clientele, and a more diversified guest list which includes prudes. Watersports and evening entertainment is tops with Hedo. Both resorts include a sexual atmosphere, but Hedo is more teen sex comedy and Desire is more soft or medium porn.

You can't go wrong with either places, depends on what you 're into. Desire is more expensive generally speaking.

    Hope this helps

    Enjoy

    C

I read people talking about "relaxing" being a better option at Desire. From my perspective, we go to Hedo to NOT relax. Hedo is where we unwind maybe, but lounging the day away on the beach and listening to the gentle waves as we nap away our afternoon is not why we go on vacation. In fact, let me condemn the word "vacation" when talking about Hedo. It's not a vacation, it's a party. I relax and blow off stress by getting down to the tropics and cutting loose. We enjoy the loud people, the quiet people and all the people, less the VERY FEW creeps that come as a standard at all resorts. The only difference at "couples only" resorts, is that it would be a "couple of creeps" (lol)...

I can't sit still at Hedo and that's what I love about it. I stay up late and wake early. I like that Hedo keeps me on my toes and afraid that I will miss something. Usually by day 5, I am ready to go home, because I have just about killed myself (lol), but again, that's why I love it. While I am ready to go home, I am also dreaming of when I can return.

I am sure that Desire is great. I have even looked into it, but like others here mentioned, after being to H3 twice in 2007, I can't even bring myself to imagine going anywhere else. If I was one teeny weeny bit disappointed with anything at any other resort I was to experiment with, I would kick myself for eternity for not sticking with H3 in the first place.

Call it habituality, or fear of disappointment, but once I have the perfect vacation twice... I am hard pressed to consider messing up a great thing. If it ain't broke, I don't fix it and H3 is definitely not broke...

Is your glass "half full," or "half empty"... At Hedo, who cares... go ahead and fill it up every time you're near the bar...
