Yeah but the Appleton's they give away is the cheap stuff. Buy the "estate" labelling to take home. You can pick it up in the duty free store at the airport. BTW Chris, how DID you get five bottles back thru customs?

The VX and Reserve are the best Appeltons, and snag a bottle or two of Rum Cream.

I don't think customs charges until the total duty gets to $100 or something like that. Check the Customs web site. We brought back 4 bottles or so each. There is no limit on how many liters you can bring back as long as they are for personal use.

That's not what US Customs sez: http://cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/leavin..._exemption.xml

One liter per person of any alcholoic beverage (inlcudes beer and wine). You can bring back more than a liter but you have to declare it and pay duty.

    Rum Cake

It would be hard for them to measure the amount of alcohol in a cake so it probably isn't restricted. You may want to check with customs on that since they have different rules on bringing foods and such back. I'm pretty sure they wont care but it never hurts to ask.

The above posters are correct by the way the rum they give away is the cheap stuff. It isn't bad rum just not in the same class as the reserve or VX. Appletons reqular dark rum is better than Captain Morgan's in my opinion. I thought is was pretty good stuff till I tasted the VX, no going back now!

    BUMP!

Has anyone tried the overproof? I've heard it's lethal, so of course, I'm obligated to bring some back.

    Overproof

I have brought back some of the overproof rum. It's nice to have around for antiseptic and cleaning uses. I've seen too many people lose a day at Hedo after drinking that stuff.

I don't know about duties on alcohol, but I do know that I bring alot back into the states with me from Mexico. I will check my CPB form when I get another in a few days and let you know. You are exempt on duties up to a certain amount.

Rebel, I know what you mean by the overproof rum. I had some and lost 14 hours at Hedo, not to mention feeling like hammered cat sh*t the next morning. Stay away from that stuff, if you want to live and have a good time.

Just participate in the activities. For some activities you can win rum outright, for other activities you win Hedo Bucks which you can trade for rum.
