Thread: Rude people at front desk

  1. #46

    Angry Rude or Incompetent?

My wife and I have been to Hedo twice before and we were very
disappointed by our stay last week. In our room the air conditioner had only
two settings jet engine arctic blast and off...the control panel had
been replaced with a light switch. I would have liked to have called
the front desk to complain but...the phone jack had been ripped out of
the wall. We walked up to the front desk to request a maintenance
person to come to the room.

Why didn't you call from the room?
I told the about the phone.

When the maintenance crew came to the room I was told "It work mon"
by a maintenance man who flicked the light switch on and started the
jet engine hidden in the wall and informed me that the control unit was
broken (not true, it was gone) and that we could open our door to the
beach if we wanted fresh air .

I asked him to open the door to the beach....

and it popped off the track because no one had ever thought to
lubricate it or clean the sand out. I asked if he could help me find a table
    fan which he could not.

Back down to the front desk again....
Why didn't you call from the room?
I told them about the phone again

My wife asked for a fan...
and had to threaten the night assistant manager with our immediate
    departure to get one.

Fan arrives in room half hour later.
Room floods two days later from leak in room above (watched maid walk
around water on floor during day).

Back down to the front desk again...
Why didn't you call from room?
I told them about the phone again.

During our stay my wife and I (and many other people) saw a rat run
through the dining room (I have worked in urban scrap yards most of my
adult life and know too much about rats..this was not a mongoose). When
I told the woman at the front desk about it she did not even pretend
    to be surprised.

The day we were liberated I shared all this information with a
management team member she also did not bat an eye about the running rodent in
    the dining room.

She offered us two free nights which I viewed as more of a threat than
a reward for what we were put through.

I would only recommend this resort to my worst enemy
OOPs this should have been posted to h2 forum sorry about that.

    Red face First timers

Our first trip is in late December and while I hope that our room does get downgraded I will not let it spoil my trip. However, if I don't get a refund for a less expensive room I will not be happy. I'm not typically a rude person so I will be polite about requesting for a refund, but does anyone have any words of wisdom for me if this doesn't seem like it is going to happen.

As far as the other things I'm not really worried about those. As long as the food is eatable I will be happy. I don't plan on spending much time in the room so as long is there is an A/C of some type I will be fine. Although a working TV for a little porn would be nice.

What are the do's and don't to make sure we have a great trip?

My wife and I had absolutely none of these problems when we went last October. The front desk staff was personable and friendly. Of course we were that way to them as well. The room was fine. The water was hot. (As was the Playboy Channel on the TV!) HIII is a good bit newer than HII. The poster above was at HII.

You will have a great trip. Just remember that you are on Jamaica time when you arrive and everything will be alright.

Front desk folks were friendly and accomodating to the Bareass Buccaneers, as well as the rest of the staff.

Jwoods, maybe you were still uptight from the plane ride down, sorry you felt or experienced "rudeness".

I agree with the whole thing on if you are nice to them they will be nice in return to you. I guess for us as long as the drinks are cold, the sun is bright, and the food is good, I don't really care how the room is. I don't plan on spending much time in there anyways. Just for a shower, a little sleep, and well of course the obvious!!!

like FunLovinGal said, if there's compensation for a room downgrade that helps. I'd prefer the difference in price be refunded rather than a credit towards a next visit that more than likely will have to be within a certain timeframe. last time we had to wait a little for our room to be ready, less than half an hour so it wasn't too bad. The hot water did run out which sucks in my opinion. The food was fine.

I guess some of us expect to get what we paid for considering our reservations are nonrefundable. When we don't we get upset. Others of us find the nudity and games worth the price regardless of many other amenities. I blame the corporate world's mentally to overbook in anticipation of people not showing or cancelling so that they can max potential profits. That's what is causing the issues of room unavailability.

I'm not in the corporate world at all, so please don't feel I am taking their side, but the fact is... they overbook because people do cancel. Pretend you bought expensive food to sell at a party (say $2,500 per plate) and those that didn't show only had to pay $1,250 for their failing to show. You would be hard pressed to sell tickets to the next event, after all the losses as the food just sat there not eaten and went to waste.

I am not defending anyone, but them covering their asses at the resort, keeps all of us paying regular rates and not rates blown way out of proportion.

I would pay $4,500 to go to Hedo, because I love it so much, but I couldn't go as often. As long as I can go more often, I will take the bad with the good.

    Just my humble opinion...

Is your glass "half full," or "half empty"... At Hedo, who cares... go ahead and fill it up every time you're near the bar...

if there was only some 'information site' where you could have researched the resort to see if the rooms were 100% available the second you walked in, regardless of arrival time.

And perhaps this 'information site' may also have other people reporting about food, rooms, A/C, and all the other amenities that absolutely nobody goes to Hedo 3 for.

    ... if only...

With a 20 week old fetus in me I will definitely care about the food and A/C - and the comfort of the bed! Though those concerns are in the minority...

    Hey Junebug...

I remember you posting a long time ago that you would be going while taking a little "soon to be person" with you...

Congrats again on the baby and you guys have a great time. Oh yes, try not to kill Mr. Junebug if there are some problems with check in, or the AC (lol)...

I'm sure at 20 weeks it WILL be his fault, but remember he loves you...

    I completely understand your point.

I've mentioned this before, on a 'tattoo' thread a while back.

If you have a medical condition where a run-of-the-mill infection would incur more dire consequences than normal, say fresh tattoo, pregnancy, etc, then I would recommend not going to Jamaica.

I love the country, and the resort, but Hedo is not 4 star accommodations, and Jamaica is still third world country.

If someone I cared about told me they were thinking of doing Hedo pregnant, I would seriously dissuade them from going.

(my sister's an OR nurse, and I was premed.. I know a bit of what I speak)

But that's not really the point. The point is anyone spending 60 seconds on this board would realize that Hedo doesn't have flawless amenities. Not even close. But that's not what people go to hedo for.

If you want to roll the dice with your unborn child, do it where you're pretty much guaranteed AC, quality food, etc, etc.. Perhaps Hawaii. Perhaps big-named hotel chain.

aww...thank you for the concern. my doc didn't bat an eyelash when I told him we'd be in Jamaica for a week. And we actually did consider Hawaii...it's next on the list. Have to get the travel in before the unvoluntary sleepless nights start!

Problems do occur from time to time with rooms, phones, etc., but in our experience of 14 trips, the staff does everything they can to rectify problems. If anything crops up that does require intervention (Phone or A/C not working, etc.) contact Christine or Karen at Guest Services. They'll not only get things working to resolve the issue, but they'll check back with you to ensure satisfaction. Their jub is to keep you happy. Although the front desk staff are great people, Guest Services is a much better choice to deal with the issue.
