    Canadian's with The Golden Ticket

My husband and I are recovering from Covid. We received official positive PCR test reports, and a doctor's letter saying that we have recovered from Covid19. We are told that we are now exempt from having to do any Covid tests for 180 days. Have any fellow Canadians done this and travelled to Hedo? Thank you!

It is my understanding that one still needs a negative test for Jamaica. I don't believe they accept fit to fly letters.

Well that is not good news! We are told we can test positive for months after having Covid. That is why we paid for PCR tests to avoid paying for tests to go to Jamaica, which could still detect Covid! Fingers crossed they lift that rule before summer! To return to Canada, the positive test result is all that is needed, not another negative test.

You might want to start at this Jamaica site. They don't have an answer for you, posted, but
at the bottom of their page is a form you can fill out to ask that very specific question.

Please post their reply for the rest of us, thanks.

This was their response. Hopefully this changes in the future!

"The Government of Jamaica and the Ministry of Health and Wellness have not revised or amended the current Covid-19 protocols to include a recovery letter from a doctor.

At this time, what is required is a negative PCR or Antigen test result within 3 days of travel date."*

If you have had Covid and recover, and subsequently test positive, it is far and away more likely due to you being reinfected, than it is to a false positive. Especially the farther out in time from your initial true positive. Hence the reason, from a public health perspective, to test travelers.

So, what can you do? 1. Get vaccinated and boosted. 2. Avoid crowds, wear a mask, and isolate yourself as best you can 2 weeks prior to your flight to Jamaica. 3. Purchase travel insurance. 4. Don’t stress. The likely outcome is you will be going on a fabulous vacation without incident.

Definitely do the Rapid Antigen for travel to Jamaica. It’s less likely to be positive, the more time that passes. Who knows what rules will be in effect this summer tho!

We have finally booked for August! Rules and restrictions can change a lot by then. At least we know that we will not have to test to come back home, or be randomly selected at the airport for a PCR test. That is the only plus of getting Covid and paying for our positive PCR results!
