Plan to arrive Hedo Jan 8, fully vaxed. Concerned with what seems to be how easy omicron is transmitted. Anyone heard of positive tests at Hedo. As much as we enjoy Hedo, hate to be quarantined there for 5-10 days.

Yes, unfortunately. 4, as of 2 days ago.....UPDATE: the person updating everyone from quarantine has just announced his follow-up PCR(to confirm the Positive Rapid) was positive as well. No word on the other 3 people.

I just got back this afternoon. I don't know how many in isolation at Hedo, but I heard enough coughing and sneezing around to be concerned. Big sigh of relief when we got our neg test results. And then all the flight cancelations you hear about adding quite a bit of anxiety this trip. I feel it was still worth it, just not as relaxing as other times. Maybe we should have postponed 2-3 months.

Not trying to be judgmental, just trying to make an informed decision on to whether or not to postpone our trip. Were the people that tested positive vaccinated and if so did they have the booster?

I completely understand your concern! We were there Dec 2-11 and had the same questions before our trip. We used common sense and were able to get a negative test. We are boostered. We did not go in the Piano Bar at all. And only wore our mask in the gift shop/front desk as required. (Buffet self-serve/mask up was not in effect yet.) Otherwise, did all our usual stuff (bocce ball, pool games, only did the nude pool before 1:30pm before it got busy, ate meals with whoever). It's such a gamble though, no matter how careful you are. The gentleman in quarantine does state he is "fully vaccinated". I'm not sure if that means boostered though sorry. He is the only one of the 4 reporting. He also says no one else has been added to quarantine.

I agree, this is somewhat confusing especially the comments on the article. I have also heard that once you had COVID you will test positive for weeks to months afterward so if you got a negative test to get into Jamaica and you test positive when leaving, chances are you will not be getting a negative test after 5 days or even 14 for that matter. From ABC new source: How long does it take to test negative after testing positive for COVID-19? According to Pardee UNC Health Care Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Ellis, it can take anywhere from weeks to months. He said 30% to 40% of people will still test positive at three weeks, but that doesn't mean you are contagious that entire time. "What people need to know is that this virus tends to be infective for about eight days," Ellis said. "That’s the reason people are supposed to quarantine for 10 days if they have it. Even though they may still test positive, it’s not likely that they are shedding virus that could infect other people. But it takes a long time sometimes for the test to turn negative."

With at being said I assume if you aren't showing symptoms you will be released without further testing after 5 days but this is my opinion and things are constantly changing so who knows?

Yes! That is what I took from the article as well! But a 5 day quarantine/ and needing a neg test are 2 different things. They desperately need to clarify! I’m so glad we got our December trip done after just 1 cancellation.(although we are already booked for next Dec, haha) I feel for all those having to make a decision with all this uncertainty with the rules going on.
EDIT: Still no report from the gentleman in quarantine, about the new 5 day quarantine.

Ok, as we thought…: the 5 day quarantine means nothing because you still need the negative PCR. Quoted from the gentleman on the Facebook group. And there are 7 people currently quarantined. (I’m not sure if I can post the name of this group here) PM me if you need it. It’s a wealth of knowledge from this gentleman.

It is my understanding that if you test positive for covid, you may test positive for up to 180 days.
To reenter Canada after testing positive, you need to present your positive test results dated 14 days earlier (or more) on entry. Here's the quote
"Who is exempt from arrival testing:

Already recovered: Travelers who provide a positive COVID-19 molecular pre-entry test result, conducted at least 14 and no more than 180 days (starting January 15, 2022, between 10 and 180 days ago) before their scheduled flight or arrival at the land border crossing, are exempt from arrival testing.

Now the question I have is, If one member of a party of two (husband and wife) test positive and the other not, does only one get sent to covid Island, and the other must then either book another room, or leave the resort. or do they both get sent to the Island.

My understanding from when we were there in December was both go to COVID island because you were exposed.
