    COVID Island

    Hello all.
Longtime reader, but first post. Have been to H2 numerous times and absolutley luv the place. Last trip in April 2020 was cancelled due to Covid chaos and everything shut down.
We have been reading about what happens should one test positive while at the resort and having to spend 2 weeks in the Covid Island area. We presume that is prude side garden area.
Our question is what restrictions are in place for one sent there? Are you able to leave the room at all for fresh air or do you have to stay in the room the whole time. We have heard that meals and refreshments are delivered to your room.
Currently scheduled to be there for the Halloween week party (Oct 30 to Nov 6), but still deciding whether to go or defer.
We are fully vaxed but need to consider if we were "stuck" at H2 for an additional 2 weeks.
    Appreciate any info you have.
Many Thanks, and keep up the great intel.
    Cheers,
    Kevin

Not my picture, but this is reported (from a FB group) to be a picture from the grass area that Covid Islanders are aloud to use.
If memory serves, that would be the fence that backs onto Norman Manley BVD.

If the Covid Islanders are segregated for up to 2 weeks, are they allowed to at least play/socialize with each other? If not, how would that even be policed?

It's my understanding that the covider's are guarded 24/7. No socializing, no playing (beyond your room mate). The best you get is to sit on a lounger in a grassy area next to a highway.
I would have thought a section of beach, blocked off, would at least be of some benefit, but no, not available because they can sell that beach space to paying guests.
However, it should be noted that being quarantined in all other resorts means not leaving your room, so this grassy area is a GREAT feature of being quarantined at this resort.
The guards don't allow close quarters socialize on this grassy area.

Thanks for the pic and info. Yes, we recognize that part of the resort.
If anyone has any other details to offer, thanks in advance.
    Cheers

We were there a month or so back when they first started putting positive guests over there, and wouldn't you know it, but Hedo placed us beside them. Over the week, we talked a lot with the first crew from over the balcony. Yes, that picture is accurate, and yes, they are right beside the road. Most of the people in quarantine had minor, or no symptoms and they all hung out together in that little grassy area. Food and drinks including bottles of rum, gin, etc were brought to them, and overall they were treated very well. They could socialize with one another, but they couldn't go out of the grassy area. A guard was posted nearby to ensure they didn't make a run for it. They played cards and other stupid games to amuse themselves and were in decent spirits. When we remarked that we were nervous about the test, they laughed and said we'd have no worries as the resort realized really quickly that it was becoming a hospital. They were correct as we went to get tested and the nurse only waited 2 minutes for the results before quickly tossing the test into the trash. I've taken enough antigen tests to know that results take a good bit longer to show up. Sure enough my wife and all the folks we hung out with came home positive. I was the one survivor, but I have natural immunity from a prior infection. Thankfully, no one had a serious case from our circle of friends. While I wasn't impressed with the testing done on property, I am selfishly glad we were able to come home to the US for her to recover. Still, that wasn't right and I sincerely hope that she did not infect anyone else while traveling. On the other hand, symptoms didn't start until after returning so hopefully she wasn't contagious. Would I go back? Yes I would, provided the surge in Jamaica is over. But I would damn sure make plans just in case I have to spend extra time in Jamaica. This means pack extra toiletries, have some covid symptoms treatments packed, and just be prepared. I find that if I plan for the worst, I usually never have a problem, but if I don't karma can be a bitch!

Question. For those that came home positive, were any of them vaccinated before going to Jamaica.
Good to hear that no one had serious issues.

Of our circle, there were 10 that we kept up with. 9 of the 10 tested positive including my wife. All were fully vaxxed. I'm the only non vaxxed (due to a medical condition), but I had natural immunity from prior infection. I was the only one not to get it. But on the good side, the vaxxed people had mild symptoms and now can add natural immunity to their vaccine coverage - so there is a silver lining!

Thanks Wookie for those great insights into COVID Island and the testing. Appreciate the first hand knowledge.
Happy to hear your wife and friends only had minor issues.
    Cheers!

Thanks Wookie, good to hear that all recovered with only mild symptoms. Hopefully they didn't pass it along on the trip home.

So now H2 can say "Most of the people we tested, came up negative."
I wonder how many other groups had similar results.

That is a little disturbing I would say, in the case of Canadians who require a PCR Test it takes at least 24 hours for a result I wonder how the resort deals with those?

Simple, PRINT out a confirmation of a negative test (regardless of the results), and you're good to go, will be back in Canada before the shit hits the fan. Would work for me.

It took quite a bit more than 24 hours to get ours, luckily negative.
