We have a Jamacian friend. He told us negril empty, no tourists and workers have all gone home, most hotels have closed.
"Closed Down"
The RIU Palace Jamaica, RIU Negril and RIU Montego Bay resorts ceased operations beginning March 19. In addition, Royalton Negril’s three properties have closed, with guests moving to Royalton’s Royalton White Sands and Royalton Blue Waters in Trelawny. The Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Half Moon, Breathless, Secrets Wild Orchid, Zoetry, Sunset at the Palms, Hedonism II, Melia Braco and Sandals Negril properties have also closed.

Hedo puts out updates on their Facebook page and although they have not come out and said they are closed they have said that you would have to honor the lock down rule and be quarantined to your room for 14 days.

The resort is "closed" as there are no guests . Permanent employees are coming in three days a week at half pay doing mostly clean up work. Contract employees apparently receive nothing. Surprising how many long time workers are contract.
I wonder if guests who can't return later or just don't want to return at a future date might have recourse through a credit card if they used them.
I suspect that Jamaicans will be facing some difficult times economically and health wise.

Riandsu, you might have missed the information on the protocol for arriving passengers. They must undergo a quarantine for 14 days within their destination, be it a private home, an Airb&b or a resort. During the 14 days, you are not allowed to leave your room. Meals/drinks are to be served to you while you remain in your room. Room cleaning is not being done.
No way can a resort be operating as usual.
If you are in quarantine on a resort then you don't have to stay in your room

We know and are in contact with one of the dinning room managers. We just exchanged a few text messages, and direct from the horses mouth, “the resort is closed”. No ifs and buts about it. He said he hopes to go back soon, but no date has been given to them. This information is valid as of 5 April 2020

As I reported, the resort officially or unofficially is closed. There are no guests and there is no staff for guests. The powers that be do not know when or even if the resort will reopen. I know that management agonizes over how to help the employees. Jamaicans that I talk to have a nervous edge to their voices. A large portion of the Jamaican population has no savings or other reserves to last through a crisis of any length.
Many of the taxi and bus drives have outstanding loans on their idle vehicles. The Jamaican government is making provisions as best they can to ease the payments of certain things such as utility bills and encouraging banks and other institutions to help the people with loans. Butch Stewart
The resort is closed. Employees are not going in for half days. No word about paychecks if any for the idled employees. Masks, wipes and hand sanitizers are impossible to find.
If you have a secure way to help your friends there now would be a good time. However, there are scams galore.
