    Dispensary on property?

So this is for those that are home now or recently returned...we saw a “rumor” on FB that they were putting in a 420 dispensary on the property where the slot machines were located, can anyone confirm or deny this rumor? The rumor stated that is was supposed to be completed by the end of July so even if true it may not be there yet. Just looking to get some of the latest info from the greatest place on earth

    Thanks

I have seen comments elsewhere from people who said they are currently building it

We just returned on June 8. We didn’t see any construction in that area. The pool table is still there but the slot machines are no longer there

We also heard this rumour but no confirmation as of yet. It would be nice. Has it been fully legalized in Jamaica yet?

No. It has been decriminalized. Not the same thing.

Yes that's what I had thought. Which made me wonder how they would open one if it isn't fully legalized yet. I guess time will tell.

It would have to be “medical”. From what we have read you can get a medical card at the airport or a number of other places. I suspect that if the resort opened a dispensary on the property they might also be able to provide the medical card at the nurses station...just a theory of how they COULD do it. But that’s what we were trying to find out.

They are actually building a dispensary closer to the wine bar and piano bar, not near the gift shop. Opposite side of the courtyard from the gift shop. It is under construction now. I should have taken a photo last week. It will put a damper on Redhat and Shell guys business for sure.

That’s awesome! Thanks for the info, is the resort giving any details on when it will be open or how to use it? As far as hurting the local entrepreneurs, that would be unfortunate but we have purchased from them in the past and you never know what you are actually getting, if would be nice to have even a basic choice of strains. Not to mention they sell other than just flowers...

Ok so we just got back Sunday 6/16 and YES they are putting a dispensary where the jewelry store used to be behind the wine bar. No you will not need a medical card in order to buy. No sure how long it will take before it’s open for business as the jewelry store stuff had just been moved out. Winston announced it one night during the week.

Hard to understand how a dispensary could sell without being a medical dispensary as those are the only permits being issued, as I understand the current laws and processes.

Could be there are changes in the laws coming you aren’t aware of. I can’t imagine them building without having a way to cash in. Lots of those kinds of things happening in the US too

It has happened here in Canada, now totally legal. However, it is very addictive...the government is addicted to the tax revenue! lol

From the Ministry of Health: Ganja remains an illegal Class A drug in Jamaica and remains a prosecutable offence where the growing, possession, distribution etc, of amounts exceeding two ounces, is not permitted by the law or unless allowed by the Cannabis Licensing Authority. Rastafarians may also seek and receive permission to have smoking allowed at an event where members of the public are invited as long as they apply to the requisite authority and the rules of the law are applied.

I have a feeling "unless allowed by the Cannabis Licensing Authority" is the key phrase here. I imagine resorts spend a lot of time lobbying (or equivalent) their government to get as many concessions like these as possible.
