    Things to do off property.

Many are coming to HII from HIII for the first time. Here's a few fun things to do around Negril.

    Walk the beach toward Negril.

Head out to Booby Cay for fresh grilled lobster.

Taxi to Times Square for trinkets & Cuban cigars.

Pick up bulk Blue Mtn. coffee at Selina's

Small craft market out the driveway and left 250 yards (before airport) on right.

Large craft market on right just before entering Negril.

Taxi to Rick's Cafe or nude cruise on Thursdays.

Jenny's Bakery just past Rick's for brownies (use caution!)

Cruise to The Caves/snorkle on Tuesdays.

    There must be more...

I would highly recommend walking the beach down to a seafood place called Cosmos , great food great prices. Nice walk then take a free shuttle ride back to Hedo.

The only things we did off the resort we're Ricks Cafe and The Catamaran Cruise if you want to count it. BTW I never had Jenny's Brownies. I read where some people got sick from them. Are they really that awful?

Jenny's brownies are "not that aweful" no more than downing a fifth of Vodka. They'll just kick your butt, so use caution.

I knew lobster season closed April 1st, but had no idea when it re-opened. Wait 2 weeks on that one.

    Check out http://www.negrilinfo.com
They have a section on Lobster mating season and conch season in the weather section. Also have an awesome map of Negril. It will give you an idea of things..
Cool things not usually given at the tour desk may include Abeokuta Park
    Or Benji's Paradise.
Or walking up the beach and just chilling where ever you feel has that vibe you are looking for. Tons of chill places on the cliffs as well. Or getting bikes, or a cab, and riding over to Little Bay

Or do the catamaran trip to Rhodes Hall. Or go to Half Moon Beach and chill for the day..

Jenny also has some yummy food, not just "special" cakes and brownie's hehe

Dayum I'm home sick for Negril.. **sigh**

Any suggestions regarding currency? I plan on bringing a lot of dollar bills (someone on there suggested that is best for tips) but not sure what else to bring and since the Jamaican dollar is a penny US...want to make sure I am not getting ripped off or worse, ripping someone else off when I go off to get the touristy stuff as well as the nontouristy stuff.

I always bring tons of small bill's ( $100, at least, in $1's, $5's, $10's ) Then I head over the the ATM, either in town by the Hi-Lo or at the gas station by the Hedo driveway, and get some jamaican $$. Bring a currency conversion cheat sheet (oanda.com). That's for dinners, or buying trinkets, or anything off property really. The conversion you get from town vendors is not the actual exchange so you will lose $$ if you use USD.
If you are not going off property then just stick with small bills for tip $$.

More off-property things for the OP....
Rent bikes and ride along the beach and cliff roads.
Taxi to the lighthouse for the short tour and photos, then walk back to Sexy Rexy's for a libation and on to the LTU for lunch and perhaps a swim.
Lunch or drinks at Xtabi & some cliff snorkeling there.
Take the hedo ski boat to Bloody Bay and wander around chatting with the local folks at the office of nature.

Very true Climmx. We stay off the resort a lot, and always deal in JA when up on the cliffs and especially in the grocery stores and small exchanges. If you're not leaving the resort, or only using a cc for your dinner off property, then it is more of a hassle to exchange.

Tipping in US is much appreciated.

Do I need to buy some water bottles outside the resort or can you get water bottles inside the resort under the "all inclusive" banner? Are there any drinking water quality issues in Jamaica?

The water in Jamaica is perfectly fine to drink. They used to have water bottle stations around the resort so people would stay hydrated but they are now installing purification filter statiions (not sure from what) around the resort and will give you a water bottle when you check in.
