    Sandy Bottoms Newbies

We’re traveling to Sandy Bottoms in Ontario 7/22/19 - 7/27/19. Been to desire pearl a few times but this seems a little different. Any one else going then, or have any advice if you’ve been there before?

Well, first of all, its not like a typical resort... it's 'self catering', so bring what you need to cook for meals, and BYOB. There is no restaurant on site, and it is not licensed. Town is 15 minutes away. The communal kitchen is recently renovated and full equipped with whatever you'll need to prepare meals, and numerous BBQ's (Propane included) are located around the resort. An outdoor kitchen is available as well. The lake is small, but that means privacy! No neighbours across the lake (crown land) so have never seen anyone there except visitors to Sandy Bottoms walking the trail around the lake (must be dressed). New this year, a conversation pool to cool off in if lake swimming isnt your thing. Hot tub also available. There is a sandy beach with plenty of chairs, a deck and seating at lakes edge, and a huge long dock with seating on the lake. Diving platform and trampoline on the lake as well, and kayaks/canoes etc all available for guests use.

As for the atmosphere, I hear others describe it as 'upscale' and 'inclusive'. A full house usually sees about 100 people on the grounds each week. The Schedule of Events helps get people up and mingling, but there is no requirement to do so. I don't find it as 'clicque'y as some other vacation destinations, but we do have small groups that come back year after year. The Themes each week really don't mean much, it's the same events happening each week.

We've been twice and really enjoyed it. The first time, it was mostly hanging out with people, getting to know them. The most recent time (last summer) there were a lot more organized activities, which you could opt out of easily enough if you just wanted to chill. Like a lot of these resorts, it's all in what you make of it, and the crowd that shows up will play a big role in what goes on.

If you're OK with tenting, it's a pretty great deal. If you need a cabin or similar, it's more expensive but not too bad.

We really really enjoyed the ad hoc, self catering, hang out and chill kind of vibe. It's a nice place, and the owners have been pouring money into it to make it nicer. The owners (Matt and Amanda, who also own Ozone) are great too.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Newbies & Nature starts this Monday! Not quite full thru the week, so if you find yourself with some time next week, check it out! And in June (shoulder season) it's 25% cheaper than the summer weeks. Cya at Sandy Bottoms!

Here are the themed weeks this summer, for your convenience.
    July 2-7 = Fun & Games Week
    July 8-14 = Beach Bash
    July 22-28 = Summer Slice
    Aug 5-11 = Band Camp
Aug 12-18 = Tabota Party (this one is always a full house!)
    Aug 19-25 = Summer Splash
And in Sept, one last weekend, Sept 13-15 = Fall Fling.
The Schedule of Events is the same each week. Band Camp might be a bit more musical, but it'll be up to the attendees (if they bring instruments, can sing, etc)
Pick a week that works best for you. We'll see you at Sandy Bottoms!
