Bugs / sand fleas / mosquitos etc?

Are bugs an issue at hedo?
Should we pack "Off" along with our sunscreen?
Especially curious about the sand fleas...no see ums.
    They eat me alive.

No need for Off. We had no problem. They spray for real every evening between 5-6. We do recommend a towel to lay on when taking pictures on the Hedo sign. We think that's where she got her only bites during the week. Relax and enjoy.

Insects (sand fleas, and no see ums) on the beach ARE an issue. I usually get bit a lot under the trees on the beach. Bug repellent works well here. I'm like a bug magnet, my partner on the other hand just about never gets a bite.
Last April was the first year that I only got about three bites at our usual location on the beach. The resort does fog around 17:00 for mosquitoes. This year as in the past, we had a knock at our room door, and asked if we wanted our rooms sprayed for ants. We had no ants or any other creatures in our room for that matter, but let them spray anyway.
    Yes, pack the insect repellent.

YES, pack it! Trip 10 and as always I got one bite and my wife got about 50. She is a bug magnet. And we never go to the beach, nude pool all day, so the critters are everywhere.

I'm a bitey bug magnet and they are def there especially in the summer. I spray my legs at night with REI Jungle Juice (minimal smell repellent) before I go to dinner to avoid the ones that seem to hang out under the tables (and for Monday/Jamaica night when dinner is on the beach) and avoid standing on the beach at night when the sand fleas come out. If you lay directly under trees you may get bit by ants. I tend to pick chairs that are not close to the actual tree trunk, if I ever do lay down on the beach.

Bugs are less in the winter, but I still bring the spray just in case.

    Have fun!

Last year I got badly bitten by sand fleas. My wife did not. She sleeps later in the morning. I get up and go to the beach. I hear that before dawn and after sunset at the beach is when the no seeums get aggressive. I did a scientific experiment with baby oil because I heard it works. I covered my legs with the oil and watched as tiny critters (the size of a grain of sand) jumped on and immediately drowned. Yes baby oil worked for me! After getting bitten (before I discovered the baby oil) I found that antihistamine cream and pills helped.

Thanks all. I'll be bringing some baby oil and a natural repellant.

I'm bringing 2 bottles of 20% picardin lotion and 2 bottles of spray. It's not "natural."

But it's safe. Nontoxic if inhaled. Only moderately dangerous if swallowed in relatively large amounts.

Nontoxic if applied to skin even in large amounts every day for years.

It's more effective against insects and mosquitoes and for longer than deet. It doesn't damage clothing.

It's synthesized and is very similar chemically to a naturally occurring compound found in pepper.

    It works for me.
