Has any one experienced theft from there in room safes as i have just read about it on trip advisor
I cannot find a specific reference to a Hedonism room safe thief on tripadvisor. I have had two kinds of problems with the room safes: failure to lock and failure to open (occurs when the previous room "owner" checked out with the safe locked). The Hedo repair kit is kept in a locker that requires two keys to open (two different managers required). I have tried the well published "universal opening codes" and none of them work on the Hedo Safes. The safes are made by Elsafe (now known as ASSA ABLOY).
I have had 100 percent certainty with the Hedo room safes.
I saw the TripAdvisor report about the thefts from the safes. I did raise an eyebrow while reading it. Certainly we have not experienced anything quite like that at Hedo. And we can get a bit too comfortable leaving items out on the dresser.
The report has a few interesting things. The writer says two room's safes had money taken. But neither of the thefts were reported to management by the guests, as stated in the reply to the report from Hedo. Wouldn't even the most loyal Hedo fan/guest say something to management, if just to let them know?
Even with the thefts the reviewer gives the resort 4-stars. But I suspect with the title of the report, the damage to any newbie reading it, would be done.
The reviewer has one other report on TripAdvisor, and it is a glowing report of a hotel. They are not a prolific reviewer, but also do not seem to be targeting hotels either.
Not really sure what to make of it. More curious than anything. But like Passion4Diving, we have 100 percent certainty with Hedo safes also.
Returning to HEDO October 16 through 26, 2019
In over thirty years we NEVER had a safe problem at Hedo.
But we did have a $20 bill removed from my wallet, from the safe at Desire. We reported IMMEDIATELY. The $20had been put aside for a tip. Management denied all knowledge, but others reported a similar problem. Problem clened up almost immediately. Never heard of a problem again.
But a really good idea to NEVER leave anything of real personal value in a hotel safe. Keep a copy of your passport etc. on your phone and a printout in a suitcase -- get-me-home insurance

I copied the trip advisor review here.
Not sure if it is the proper or allowed thing to do as far as posting.
We all like to feel safe and comfortable.
I hope it is not true.

Money stole from safes was very scary, 400 taken from one, 20 from us, 350 from another persons safe I have lost my confidence in security on the beach as well people were missing things all week. The upgrade in the resort with new owners is awesome but the trade off is employees stealing money and other Ireland is sadShow less
Room Tip: Put money and valuables in a locked suitcase then chain lock it to the bed post don’t use safes and don’t trust as we have before
Stayed: April 2018, traveled with friends

We are at Hedo now and our safe would not open today. Security came out and opened it. But that is the only issue we have had in our many years traveling here.
This happened to us in 2010. All the big bills were taken from our wallets in our safe and all the small bills were left. When we reported it to the resort, security came and literally turned our room upside down to look for it as if we were lying and they didn’t believe us. Literally they turned the mattress upside down and searched the lining of our suitcase as well as every other nook and cranny of the room. It was very bizarre. And when we asked that they stop they just accused us of hiding the money and they would not stop! I truly believe that it was a ploy to find something illegal like drugs and then that way we wouldn’t push the issue anymore. The whole searching thing really turned us off of traveling to Jamaica.
We had something similar happen at another resort. The resort was very good about it and gave us credit for the missing cash. Several couples had the same problem that day. Here is one step I took to catch the person doing this if it ever happens again. I found on Amazon (and many other places) a small travel alarm clock that has a camera in it. I set it up in the room when we are gone. It will only record when there is motion in front of it. You can either download the video via USB or watch it on the LCD clock screen. When we are in the room it gets covered with a small towel. I think it cost about $35. It works very good at what it is intended for. There are a number of other small items that can be bought with a recording camera in them.
Never once had an issue with theft, and have on occasion actually forgotten to close the safe and the housekeeper made it a point to tell us she locked it for us.
My biggest concern when I am there is my carton of smokes! LOL. No way I am paying $15 per pack in Jamaica! I keep money separated in several pairs of pants (not wearing them anyhow), both suitcases, and even some tucked safely away in our shoes. I don't carry very much cash anymore, as our credit card does not have international fees. While I do keep passports and my cell phone in the safe the entire time we are there, I also have copies of the passports, Club Mobay passes, and other travel documents safely tucked away in our suitcases and carry-on bags as well.
These precautions I take pretty much anywhere I travel, not just to Hedo. I actually have fewer reservations about leaving things out at Hedo than I do at hotels back home.
No worries, mon!

Our report is not bogus. Just telling it like it happened.
