Contact phone for family while visiting?

    Hey all,

We are heading down to H2 this Friday (first timers) and the question of “do we leave the phone number of the hotel with the mother in law” has come up. Yes I’m bringing my mobile and have it setup to connect if needed but she likes to have “all the details of the hotel” before we leave for a just in case situation. We have kids, thus there COULD be a use case where she would need to get ahold of us in an emergency.

We can’t be the only first timers dealing with this... What have others done?

You have unlimited internet at the resort. If you download WhatsApp on both phones, you can talk on the same number.

I would just say "because we're not always in the room, it's easier for them to just txt/kik/leave a message on your phone instead of calling ($$$) the resort.

When we first started going we said "We're doing secret surprise" so we're not sure which hotel we get until we get there" and that worked well for us.

In this day & age with excellent telecomms available through roaming and WhatsApp, there is no need to give hotel numbers any more. Who really calls a hotel?

We travel to the US frequently, and the first line of communication is our Pay-As-You-Go phone number which we renew annually; then there's WhatsApp so our employees can contact us (where DOESN'T have Wi-Fi these days?) and roaming...... We are never at the hotel or our friends and family's homes - we are doing stuff!!!

Any other attempts by your Mother-In-Law to find out where you are staying is just nosiness!!!!

Thanks all for the thoughts. Agree this is a mother-in-law that is being a bit too pushy. You guys gave some great suggestions on language to use. Thanks!

See some of you soon perhaps...

If she absolutely pushes you, then give the number to Sandals Negril. They are used to it. Lol. They check their system & if you're not there - they'll put her on hold & call over to Hedo. But I'd still advise telling the mother in law to contact you via your phones first - because you probably won't be in your room.

I thought Hedo has a number for such circumstances that you can give out. Give them a call and find out.

Here I was going to use “we will be in radio blackout while we orbit the moon” Guess I will have to rethink that one.

We just had our cell phones and the internet on them. It worked just fine we talked every other day with the kids.
