First time trip Jan 2-7. We don't usually stay at a resort where our purpose is all about the resort and its activities. If you could take one item that people wouldn't normally think of for this type of vaca, what would it be?

My insulated mug (minimum 16 oz.)....the containers the resort serves drinks in are, well, very small!
# 2 would be sun glasses.

Suntan lotion, insulated mug, COSTUMES! it's a ton of fun getting involved in the theme nights. On a less fun note, about half a pharmacy. Don't go to Hedo without cough meds, Tylenol and a first aid kit. Long nights, tons of yelling and copious amounts of alcohol tend to lead to sore throats, headaches and the occasional accident. On the upside if you forget anything you will be surrounded by the friendliest people on earth to help you out. Have a great trip!
Small power strip, compact multitool for room maintenance, several night lights, packable sewing kit
My extensive travel checklist has been posted here several times and of all the items on it, the only things I could not replace in Jamaica would be my wigs!

ear plugs!! always nice to have in case!
LMFAO on the (Multi tool for room maintenance) is so funny, every year there is something broken in our room. One year my wife got a hell of a shock off of the light hanging over the dresser in front of the mirror 2 minutes after arriving at the resort, we told them about it and it was fixed that same day.

Large insulated cups are a MUST! The bar tenders will mix your drink as big, or as strong as you want. We typically got 2 "shots" in a 32oz "Yeti", and the rest ice and soda water... HYDRATE!

We agree with the people who suggest the large insulated cups. We also bring along a few extra bucks to purchase supplies from the Shell Boy.
A cool hat, to protect your head, face and ears from sunburn. Recommend straw cowboy hat so it's not ruined when you get it wet.
Over the door shoe rack...the kind made of fabric & pockets. It keeps all our toiletries visible, accessible & organized - the bathroom countertops are too small for all the crap we bring . That - and necklaces with our names on them for in the pool. You meet so many people & this helps tremendously. Those two items ALWAYS travel with us - even on our trips where we scale everything back.

Echo the mug recommendation.
And, make sure you stay hydrated. We alternate alcoholic drinks with water - LOTS and LOTS of water. It keeps you from overdoing it on the alcohol and keeps hangovers to a minimum.
If you've never been to a place like Hedo before, my strong advice is to go easy on the alcohol for the first day or two until you get a feel for the drinks they serve and your tolerance. I've seen many people try to "drink the bar dry" and end up regretting it because they feel like shit and miss part of their expensive vacation.
