    Mirage Resort Negril

Has anyone ever stayed at the Mirage Resort in Negril? It's on the Cliffs, and is "Clothing Optional". Does that mean that it also has some PDAs & PDSs?
We are going back to CocoLaPalm next year for our Anniversary (got married there in 2012). We spent the second week that trip at Hedo, but are thinking of just relaxing the second week at Mirage, but still would like some fun!

Yes, I've stayed at Mirage. As for "Clothing Optional", ymmv. People have done it...rarely, but there seems to be non-guests, and sometimes kids from the neighborhood hanging in the pool. Wifi very spotty, and the ladders into the ocean are often pulled due to rough seas.

I had issues w/wifi and a safe that didn't work first day...had to get someone from Charela(owners) to come down to get the issue fixed.

Continental breakfast was fine for me, and security good.

We stayed there in August of this year. It was very disappointing and I would not recommend to anyone. We did four nights at Hedo, then moved to Mirage for three nights because we wanted to do cliff jumping and swimming in the ocean there.

I can't recommend the place at all. Our trip was about as much a disaster as possible. We were there during low low season. They were literally closing the doors after we left for a month of renovations. We were the only paying guests in the hotel.

There was one room taken with family of the staff. Yes, there were kids in the pool nearly all day. So much for swimming naked. We did in the evenings and the pool is actually quite nice. But, the kids were there nearly all of the time. They would get in the pool and spend hours playing loudly and tossing a football. We sat by the pool one day and one landed in my wife's lap. And there was construction going on the entire time we were there, so lots of workers hanging around.

We specifically requested a ground-floor room so we could walk out to the pool. They gave us a second floor room instead due to the construction. What is amazing is that of all rooms in an empty hotel, why would they put us in the room right next to the big construction project?

The main reason for picking this hotel was to be able to swim and snorkel from the cliffs. However, they removed the ladder to access the sea the entire time we were there. There was a tropical storm passing to the southwest and the seas were high sometimes, but there was plenty of time when it was calm, particularly in the mornings. But, there was no way to safely get out of the water. They had steps, but they were in such bad shape that they were seriously dangerous.

WiFi worked on some devices and not others and sometimes not at all. The safe would not lock sometimes. We found you could power cycle it and then lock. The last day the battery died and they never did get around to replacing it.

Only positives were the breakfast, which was very good every day and there was plenty and the manager was nice, but we should have complained. No restaurant other than breakfast, so you have to leave the hotel to find food and expect to be hassled. Posted a review on TripAdvisor and still no reply.

Damn shame. The hotel looks nice and the rooms are okay, if a bit run down. They are promoting the idea of clothing optional, but clearly they don't care much about their guests unless the hotel is mostly full.
