    Desire Pearl vs. Hedo Question

My husband and I went to Hedo in July for the first time. We had an absolute blast. We loved the atmosphere. We are considering going to Desire Pearl. It's less expensive and easier to get a straight flight there. Our question is, is the atmosphere comparable. We loved the laid back atmosphere that is Hedo. Also, Pearl seems pretty small. Any thoughts?

We've been to both Hedo and Desire Pearl. You'll find the atmosphere at Pearl to be significantly different than Hedo, it's a much quieter, more sedate crowd. It doesn't have the energy level of Hedo, people mostly keep to them themselves around the pool during the day, there's a little bit of energy at night but nothing compared to Hedo. The crowd at Pearl is quiet a bit older than Hedo, at least during our visits.

You're right, Pearl is quiet a bit smaller than Hedo but it's a very beautiful resort, quite upscale, the amenities and service are much better than at Hedo. I'm surprised that you're seeing it priced cheaper than Hedo. You may have a different experience but our opinion is that anybody that loves the atmosphere of Hedo probably wouldn't find Pearl remotely close.

We haven't been to either "Desire" Resort, but we have heard the Riviera Maya resort is a LOT more "active" than Pearl, but not quite as nice.

I guess your experience will vary based on who else is at the resort the same time you are. We have been to both desire pearl and hedonism twice. Whenever anyone asks us which is better for which is worse I always tell them they're just different. One is not better than the other they are just different. If those differences happened to be very important to you, then you'll like one over the other. However something that is a dealbreaker to one couple might be trivial to a different couple, so it is almost impossible to recommend one or the other without knowing you very well. Within the same trip to desire pearl, we saw the hot tub extremely active and then almost empty on alternating nights. The amount of party atmosphere you see varies from day today and with crowd to crowd. My advice to you is to try them both and then make a full assessment. You can't go wrong.

STL-MO-CPL, this is a great reply.
I prefer Hedo, but I see how people would prefer Pearl.
For me, service was outstanding at Pearl. Before I went I was not sure about tipping, but there were some people there that really busted their butt off. I tipped more than I thought I would. I love, really love, having a balcony. To have a balcony at Hedo is too much money. Having a pool chair picked out for you everyday was great. Don't have to get up early and try to be a chair hog.
What I didn't like was, the sales pitch. We hadn't even seen the resort, why would we sign up to be a premier member. It soured our first day. No self service coffee, I like to sit outside my room, have a couple of cups of coffee then go off to breakfast. Not an option, have to go for breakfast to get coffee or the espresso bar in the lobby and have it made for you. I like being around PDA's. You can only do/see it around the hot tub. The beds around the hot tub are great, but my SO and me only used them once. She said she felt like she was on stage. There are no other places PDA's are allowed. Last but not least, they cannot make a good dirty banana......

We are an older couple. Been to Hedo 4 times and other like Punta Serena and Caliente Caribe many times. Thinking of Hidden Beach again. Is pearl more for the older couple or are there better places to just relax in the nude and make new friends?

We've been to both - Hedo is a more active party place as compared to Pearl. it is also quite a bit larger. We loved the intimate size of Pearl - set up on the quiet pool and then wandered over to the social pool when we needed to mix and mingle. And the hot tub at Pearl is so much larger than Hedo - we prefer it. That being said, it is time for another trip to Hedo to see how the renos are going...

Well, it's tough to judge what you mean by "older couple". We certainly saw everything from couples in their early 20s to early 70s. We're in our early 40s and felt right at home. There was definitely room to be quiet and reserved, or the life of the party.

We have been to both and like them equally well but for different reasons. Desire is also laid back, people are super friendly, and good adult swinger nudity fun. Desire is definitely smaller, a little quieter, and a bit of a nicer place. The pool area and large hot tub area where the action is at night is much nicer in my opinion. the rooms generally have a larger patio/balcony. and the rooms are a little nicer on the inside. And yes it is much easier to get to. its about 15 min south of Cancun. so for us in Dallas its a little more than a two hour flight and 15 - 20 min drive

Is Desire really geared towards swingers, or will the wife and I feel comfortable if we aren't in the lifestyle? We are thinking about going for 5 days in October for my birthday.

Desire and Hedo are both adults only clothing optional resorts. The word swinger is in no way part of their marketing. However, they are both very much open to guests who identify as Swingers. The overall atmosphere is sexy and certainly helps to break down barriers for those who are interested in swinging. If you are simply there to observe and enjoy the sexy atmosphere, you will have an absolute blast.

I should have read the question. I commented on RM.

Pearl is about 1/3 size of Hedo. It is much more quiet. The rooms are a little nicer, and food probably at par with Hedo. The grounds are newer and a little nicer. They have less activities than Hedo. Everything costs money. The beach is much smaller than Hedo and not as nice. I would compare Pearl with a small textile resort where everyone keeps to themselves, hanging out by the pool or beach reading a book.

If we were to go back, we would go with a group. I was quite bored.

We have been to both. Went to Hedo in 2016 and Pearl in 2017. The Hedo vibe was fun, but Pearl wasn't far from that for us. Hedo was almost trashy in their rooms and buildings as compared to Pearl. We have ZERO desire (no pun intended) to ever go back to Hedo unless we found out they bull dozed it and started over after going to Pearl. Pearl was much better in our opinion.

We just came back from pearl. I was thinking about booking hedo cause the beach at pearl is horricfic due to the sea weed situation. The odor of the sea weed was unbearable. We really like to be in the beach but the comments I’ve heard about Hedo’s room worry me. Pearl crowd was pretty laid back but I must say much older than I expected. The average age was 55. My wife and I are mid 40s.
