    Dang Hurricanes

Well, we arrived in Charlotte bright and early this morning, to catch our flight, only to learn it had been cancelled. No email, no text message or anything.

We aren't able to get a flight, until Wednesday. Needless to say, we are rescheduling.

What groups are there, the following weeks, through October?

    Thanks in advance!

We do not travel at this time of year but a friend has asked me what the weather is like at this time of year. Being hurricane season obviously there is the risk of a hurricane or like Whitehaven, dangers of flight cancellations, but what is the weather truly like? If it rains does it rain all day or just for a short time? If it rains is it warm enough to stay in the pool as long as there is no thunder & lightning? When does hurricane season end? Or when does Jamaica rainy season end? All information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

True, but for the third year in a row, the first storm of the season, TS Arlene this year, occurred before June 1st (April 19th). It is very uncommon to have hurricanes (as opposed to Tropical Storms) before August 1st as they depend on warm ocean water to develop. Late August to End of September is the height of the Atlantic Hurricane Season with September 10th being the statistical "high point".

BTW: the official "Hurricane Season" is now longer than in the past. It was originally defined in 1955 as June 15 through October 31 and has lengthened over the last 60 years.

The website windy.com gives a fascinating (at least to me) display of current and near future predicted wind patterns.

This past week (3rd to 10th), very warm, high 80's to 90's. Humidity was noticeable most of the time. Divers were diving in 86 degree water. Mostly sunny. Rain clouds would gather around 15:00 hrs. Often, though not every day a little rain then. Sometimes heavy. Due to hurricane, sea conditions went south by mid-day Thursday and it stayed "red flag" till we left Sunday. Winds also kicked up after Thursday which cooled things down to a pleasant temperature.

Thank you Papa Smurf for the current update. It is great to get first hand, up to date information on the weather and especially how the Hurricane Irma affected the weather in Jamaica. I'm glad that you had pleasant weather and an enjoyable time.
