Some random thoughts after our visit from 06/24 - 07/01. Didn't post this in the trip reports section because it's not a full report, just a few observations. It was our first trip in two years so we saw all the positive changes that others have already commented on, the resort is definitely getting better!
-we had booked GVR but were upgraded to the nude side (it happens to us almost every trip). We had a regular non-renovated room with no upgrades to the bathroom. Apparently there were around 40 rooms out of service last week due to the room renovations/bathroom upgrades.
-overall the resort looked cleaner, brighter, and neatly groomed. It's apparent they're definitely putting a greater effort into this.
-the water coolers around the resort are a great idea and much appreciated. They're located by the main pool deck, the prude beach, at the border of the prude beach and nude beach, and at the nude pool in front of the grill area. I'm sure there's more that we didn't see.
-it was our first time there in the summer and the heat and humidity were much more definitely noticeable than in the winter. We had some very hot days.
-the nude hot tub usage was not nearly so high, probably because of the above. Later in the night we found way more people using the nude pool than the hot tub which we've never experienced before. Somebody else commented that they found the pool really cold but it was just perfect for us for cooling off.
-the playroom was hopping all week. I think the playroom has taken a lot of people away from the nude hot tub at night. It's a much nicer environment for playing. The improvements to the playroom are awesome.
-are we the only ones who just can't get into the shows? If Winston is singing then we're all over it but other than that we find them all the same and kinda boring. We'd much rather go have an after dinner drink on the pool deck or at the courtyard.
-the courtyard had no cushions on the wicker furniture all week. Apparently it's been like this for a while. Seems like a huge oversight, you'd think this could be made a priority so that more people would use the space.
-the Friday night concert in the courtyard is awesome and should be much better attended in my opinion. Stephanie is a very talented singer.
-the gift shop is much better stocked than we've ever seen it and open way longer (I believe until 4am)
-we saw way more usage on the prude side than we've experienced in any other visit. I would say there were just as many people there as at the nude pool. Maybe the resort is attracting a broader clientele than the hard core nudist/lifestyle crowd? Was fine with us as it made it was easier to get a drink at the nude pool and get a lounger on the nude side.
-Flame restaurant is a great addition. The steak I had was a good as any striploin I'd get in a restaurant at home.
-we missed the repeater party as Mrs Cdn_cpl wanted to go to a tantra session that was happening in the disco at the same time. Harry was on-site for part of the week but we never saw him joining in the fun at the nude pool all week.
-we thought the quality of the weed was getting better the last few visits but this time we got some crap that was full of seeds from one of the regular beach vendors. Somebody else gave us a piece they'd bought from the guys on the Cool Runnings boat and it was much better, almost as good as what we get at home. Will definitely buy from them from now on.
-we didn't really see much changes to the disco other than around the bar area. Still way too loud and under used.
-everything at the resort still operates on way too high of a volume. My ears are still ringing six days after coming home. Would be much more enjoyable around the nude pool and in the piano bar if they'd just turn down the volume. We'd love to have a dinner in the dining room with some new found friends without having to yell across the table at each other.
Overall we had a great time and will be back. Hopefully we won't have a two year gap between visits again.
