    Booby Cay

Anyone go to Booby Cay Isle? I always talk about it, but never have. Could I just get in a kayak and go?

You can kayak there, just don't go alone.

There is often a couple there that cook lobsters and they have cold red stripe for $3. There is a path from the beach to the other side of the cay. There is some calm water and a lot of rocks and some privacy there. It's a cool place to hang out and have a little adventure.

We have been there a few times. When we have went, we have went with a few other hedo couples and talked to a local with a boat to bring us over (the guys that cruise the beach and try to sell you product, take you fishing or sell you shells, art or even their virgin mothers. Some trips we went snorkeling around the island after we got some lobster. Sitting on the beach eating fresh grilled lobster covered with butter with a chuck of bread and washing it down with an ice cold red strip is amazing. Eating it off a paper plate, sitting with friends (sitting in the sand) and listening to Reggae....fun fun fun. We also got to pick out our lobsters, live. Once we also had Lion Fish..it was good.

There are also sometimes locals that also set up a shop to sell stuff (tshirts, dress, carvings).

The time I went, the place was a mess: trash everywhere. There is no running water, no bathrooms, lots of very large sea urchins close to the beach area. Technically, the Cay is owned by the Urban Development Corp and it is closed to visitors. But … The UDC has it up for sale to be converted into a marina and cafe. Been that way for years and years and years.

There is reasonable snorkeling along the Long Bay side of the Cay.

    Yes, Passion4Diving is correct.

It is a mess...mainly in the woods, beach is ok...probably because trash blows off, no water and the only bathroom is the ocean. We have not seen the urchins, but believe they are there. We also knew that it was private property, but nobody really enforced it. Years ago, there used to be Hedo beach parties on the island...before our time....but that would have been fun

Thanks for the input. If I decide to head that way I'll probably take Magjoy's advice about not going alone. Kind of a shame. Sounds like it could be an ideal place to hang out but they're just letting it go.

I went there years ago with my first wife when we were staying at Swept Away. We rode out with another couple on the resort ski boat and got naked and hung out on the beach. It was funny because a completely full boat of about 50 people pulled up from another Vanilla resort and two of those couples came over and got naked with us too. They said they had been bored all week at their resort and so had we. Seems ridiculous in hindsight that I did not realize the love I would have for Hedo later in my life.

We stayed at Sandals once and one of the water sports members took us over there. like others have said dirty and a few locals there. We were glad that we had an escort.

We took a kayak over a couple of years ago. Walked around the beach a bit, didn't go inland, but the island seemed deserted (and not too clean), perhaps because it was morning.

Yup, You can. Pretty cool to see the back side from a kayak but I suggest putting a suit on if you plan to explore the island. Also watersports really don't like you going out of sight but If you go to the right and circle it's no big deal. They say something when you get back and ..oops sorry won't happen again.

We take a kayak over almost every September, sit on the beach, eat some lobster and have a red stripe.
    Never had a problem.

We have never had a problem either.... Not sure why some are saying don't go alone.... And the lobster was amazing on the open fire..

That sounds nice. I thought they might just be serving lobster when groups go there.
