Advise on waxing

Hey everyone ! The wife and I have never tried waxing before, and we are looking for your expertise on the subject. Timing wise, how many days in advance to our trip should we wax ? Are there any techniques for optimum results ? How long should the hair be prior to the waxing ? Is it common for waxing to cause ingrown hairs ? How many days after a wax do ingrown hairs show up ? Is there any way to treat ingrown hairs ? Are there certain body areas that are more prone to ingrown hairs than others ? We are greatful of any advise anyone has to share, as we are a bit nervous about being completely naked in public for the first time (a smooth body will help ease us in)

Everyone is different. The wife and I went and had ours done the same day by the same girl. Hers came out like silk...mine looked like I had leprosy...took months to heal. literally hundreds of ingrown hairs. Never again for me..lol

Here my tips

Time wise, we leave next Wednesday and we are both being done on Tuesday. My wife tends to get some ingrown, not terrible she deals with it with lotion and tweeezer. I have never had an ingrown and I usually go every 5 -6 weeks and only do a manzillian. You need to find someone who is willing to do men here in Toronto it took awhile to find somone good. Lots of information online about the different waxes and care. I go to the fuzzbar.com they have some good faqs there.

For the lady, try and avoid the time around your cycle, they say it hurts more.
I usually go a day or two before.
Ingrown hairs can happen, try to exfoliate before.
Let it grow, a good place will trim.
If you have time, go two months or so before your trip. Trial run! They you'll know how you react!
I prefer the wax you do without the fabric strips (hard wax?).
Make sure they're not double dipping the stick in the wax. (Cleanliness issue, can lead to issues)
Take your time and check the work! Nothing worse than getting home and realizing they missed a spot!
Take a dose of ibuprofen if you're prone to pain.

The wife and I get it done the day before we leave. The lady that we does it uses a hard wax (no strips). It lasts about 3-4 weeks for me and 5 weeks for the wife. Never have had a big problem with ingrown maybe 1 here or there. I agree with phillygirl that you should give it a try once or twice before you go. Also the more you do it the longer it will last and the less it will hurt. Plus it's easy to find someone for the ladies but not many do men and when they do it can be more then double the price of a woman's.
I say do it because it kicks ass over shaving.

We usually try to go 2-3 days prior to when we leave. If you are going to develop any bumps or ingrown hairs, it usually happens about 2 weeks after waxing (for me), so that time frame works well since I usually won't have problems while on vacation. I have somewhat thick, curly body hair, and will sometimes get a few ingrown hairs that I take care of with tweezers and a couple of over the counter skin care products. The Mrs rarely has problems, but she has much finer hair.

I exfoliate the area pretty well before waxing, give it a day for my skin to calm down after, then exfoliate pretty much every day. It helps a lot. There are also a few products that will help prevent bumps / ingrown hairs - the one that I have been using is called Tend Skin, and it seems to work ok. First 'Brozillian' was a little on the painful side - think 40 Year Old Virgin. Subsequent sessions are much more tolerable. Definitely beats shaving!

2 or 3 days ahead is indeed the best time to wax. But referencing to Danny Boy's post I would advise to also do it 4 weeks before, just so you know how your skin reacts and you can still choose to shave instead of walking around with leprosy skin XD

WAX!!! We both do full Brazilian waxing. We get waxed every 5-6 weeks. It doesn't hurt and the skin will be baby soft afterwards. Make sure you exfoliate a couple days after or you will break out with ingrown hairs. Just our opinion

BMP (bush management program) is a must. Need to keep things neat and tidy. Doesn't mean you need to be bald... but I would say things should look under control.

wax is probably best. But it doesn't bother me to shave every couple weeks... and I'm too scared of the waxing process... yanking hair from you genitals!!!

We both wax usually a few days before our trip. We keep up with the waxing regardless of a hedo trip. One word of advise is to not be fresh off the tan booth before being waxed give it a least a week. Cheers

Although I've seen few 70's porn bush situations at Hedo on men and women, it wouldn't really be how I'd want to roll down there.

If a woman is taking the time to check out my equipment, I want to make sure that the presentation is sending the right message. Clean. Well-maintained. I want her to think, "Hey, I'd like to put my mouth there".

I don't feel like 70's bush sends quite that message.
