It is my understanding you are good within a 6 month window, so you would be good through July 21, 2017. That being said, since we had to reschedule due to Hurricane Matthew, now our passports expire in 5 months and a few days. Travel agent and Tourism all said we are still good even under the 6 month window, so you should be fine! Enjoy!
you're fine with a US or Canadian passport all the way up to the expiry date. You must have proof of your return before the expiry date. You have lots of time on yours.
there is also a previous tread on here regarding this exact topic (maybe April or May 2016) if you search for it... I remember there being good info.

I cannot imagine the OP having trouble with >6 months.
That said, and I am not an expert, but will offer this on passports:
They are used to gain access to other countries and return to yours. So always be sure to consult rules on both ends.
Some countries have what can appear to be very random requirements! (Ex. Zimbabwe requires 2 or 4 blank pages!)
The risk you take with passports expiring less than 6 months before start of travel is, while the arriving country may accept them, the transporting airline may not and can deny you boarding no matter what proof you can provide of acceptance of your passport in the arriving country. I would not rely on travel agent okays. I have seen this happen. Just renew your passport , you have to anyway sooner or later.
