European Options (Now that Spice has closed)

The title pretty much says it all. I know that some people thought Spice a bit expensive or over-rated, but I don't really want to start that debate here. We went a few times and enjoyed the whole atmosphere, lack of rules, choice over interaction, etc.

We particularly enjoyed meeting other cool people from European countries.

Where do all the Europeans go now?

Is Cap d'Agde really worth it? Are there other less well know European hide-outs?

Are we all being forced into the additional expense (and jet-lag) of a trans-Atlantic flight?

Your views, thoughts, experiences greatly welcomed.

Hi there and it is unfortunate that Spice closed. Representatives of Spice (owners/managers?) were at Hedo II in June apparently considering Hedo as their alternative for clients.

I've been to Capd'Agde and while it is no Spice or Hedo due primarily to its size and infrastructure, it does offer some of the benefits that would draw guests to Spice and Hedo but be sure to go during the high (summer) season for best interactions, weather, etc.

I was invited to a Spice-Hedo-like resort's grand opening on Crete a few years ago but a check online shows it too is out of business.

Cap d Agde is our favorite destination. We've been 5 times over the past 8 years. It's a very different experience than Hedo or Desire (never been to Spice) so it ultimately depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for. Cap d Agde is not a resort. It's basically a small nudist city with wide variety of lifestyle options. It has a wide variety of everything. People from all over the world, dining options, dance clubs, lifestyle clubs, beach fun, pool fun, parties, etc.. The foam parties at Glamour each day are a must do. Cap d Agde is not all inclusive and depending on what you do and where you stay it can get expensive. The season is much more limited than the Caribbean resorts. Essentially June through early September with July and August being peak times. There are 40,000 people on a hot weekend and in the evening, the people watching is a fun experience.

Thanks for this Travel Slut, appreciate the update. (We were looking at the website of The Hidden Beach Resort the other day, thinking it looked lovely).

Thanks 46to10. Delighted to know you enjoy Cap d'Agde. I've been looking at the website, trying to get my hands around the szie of it, (no pun intended). Do you take a self-catering apartment, or stay in one of the hotels?

Thanks BelgianTeam. I didn't know about Eros-Travel, so I must look them up - thank you. I found the Rocher du Secret website and was very impressed - it looks great - and not too far from Nice airport. Thanks for this.

We usually stay in one of the hotels. Jardin de Eden is our favorite. Eden does have a small kitchen area with stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishes, etc.. but other than an occasional breakfast, we never made our own meals. The dining options are too good to pass up. There's everything from elegant french restaurants, bistros on the beach, pizza, tapas, ...

Just googled Rocher du Secret. Interesting. We had not heard of it before. We'll be back at Cap d Agde next July and have wanted to explore more of the coast so maybe we'll check out Rocher do Secret.

Open from end of April through to end of September (2017).

We won't be making it before they close this season - too much in the diary that won't shift. Very tempted by early next season though - end of May/early June is beautiful in that neck of the woods.
