    Desert sun resort

Planning a trip to Palm Springs in a few months and staying at Desert Sun Resort.

Anyone stayed there recently ? They are adults and couples only and require a membership so we are hoping we can be a little intimate but don't know till we get there. Grounds do look beautiful from the website

were thinking about staying at Sea Mountain Inn but the place seems small and expensive. We really wanna go to Hedo but we only got 4 days and it takes 2 days of travel from Vancouver and we got 3 kids doing post secondary

    thanks for advice

We went there a few years ago so I cannot comment on the current condition of the resort. It is not anything like hedo. No pdas allowed, part of property is some sort of time share, private condos combination with a smaller portion being the hotel part. It was very quiet when we were there, no music or entertainment of any kind.
The restaurant and bar were opened rarely but the food was good. We had to leave every night to eat. I think the weekends would be busier with local guests and may be more entertainment. It would be best to go there when they have some sort of event going on. The grounds were very nice and the pools were great. Only 2 small hot tubs, again no pda's allowed. We would go back if we only had a few days or were in the area.

We've been to Desert Sun a few times. It is OK, but rather quiet. The grounds are beautiful and near downtown Palm Springs. There are lots of nice places to eat nearby, so we usually went out for lunch, and ate light in the room at night. Their restaurant was rarely open when we were there. The nightclub and activities are geared towards the over 70 crowd. They don't allow any hanky-panky and really, a little too boring for us. We haven't been to Sea Mountain, but talking to others that have, most people agree that it is lively, but small. Ok for a night or two, but expensive. We just returned from a trip to Freedom Acres in San Bernardino. This place has a really Hedo-like feeling, although located in the Southern California desert. The weekend weather wasn't that good but there were still a lot of people in the pool and all kinds of romance happening. Their nightclub is near the resort and that was where the action was really happening. So much dancing! So much fun! So much nudity! Unfortunately, you need to become a member for the resort and a separate membership for the club. Depending on how long you plan to stay, it might be worthwhile.

We've been to Desert Sun a total of 5 times now. Like everyone mentioned, it is very quiet, especially during the week. If you are looking for the Hedo experience, you won't find it there (at least in public). It is, however, a great place to read by the pool and work on the tan. It is much cheaper and easier to get to than the Caribbean resorts. Fly into PSP, LAX, ONT, and you don't have to deal with customs. The grounds are beautiful and the pools are immaculate, just like the website shows.

People there are very friendly and range in ages from late thirties to sixties in a bell curve. Many of them also have done Hedo and Desire and go there, like us, because its easier for a 3-4 day trip, etc. What we've heard of Sea Mountain is that it is very small and somewhat of a wannabe. Nobody recommended it.

We always get by without a car. We walk to dinner in the old Palm Springs area and cab it back, but cabs are expensive. There are a few restaurants close by you can walk to. If you can get a good price on a rental, I'd do it.

We like it. We will be back. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Have fun.

    Thanks for the input guys.

We are going to be there mid week and staying through labour day long weekend. supposed to be sold out. BBQ by the pool and DJ in the night club and the restaurant is supposedly open for that weekend. so well see.

It really doesn't matter if no PDA's allowed as long as the place is nice and we might even check out Sea Mountain Inn on a day pass as well.
