Firstly, I'd like to thank all the people who post on ATF. The information provided here was extremely helpful and entertaining as we counted down the days before our virgin trip. Since I like the lengthy trip reports so much, I suppose I need to write one of my own. I think I might post a couple times on different topics just to cover everything I wasn't sure about before coming.
A little about us: My wife and I are both professionals in our late 30's. We live a pretty vanilla lifestyle (partly due to our respective careers, partly due to lack of opportunity where we live), we have 2 young kids, house, mortgage, etc. We've been together 16 years, married 9. Our sex life has rebounded well after having kids and I would say that most of our friends are jealous of our relationship. We are not in the lifestyle, but we are open to it and our rule is that we'll evaluate on a case by case basis. We've been on all-inclusive Caribbean vacations about a dozen times and we generally have always had a good time (at least I thought I had had a good time... more on this later).
We've known about Hedonism for several years (I think we saw it on Playboy TV) and we always joked about going there "someday", I suppose we were both only half joking. We had always travelled with a group of friends from my wife's work (teachers in case you're wondering) and we travelled with them last year after our kids were finally old enough for us to leave with the grandparents. After returning from last years trip, we decided that our next vacation would be solo and maybe something a little sexier and more fun. After a tough year we decided we NEEDED a vacation, and after some thought... we decided that the time for joking was over... time to dive in and go to Hedo!
Travel logistics: Since my wife's vacation is predetermined, we didn't have a choice as to which week we were going... we were going March break. We looked at booking through the regular travel agencies or through the resort directly, but none of them had any rooms left. We looked at the schedule on the Hedonism website and saw that is was the Hedo Amigos/Wild Women week and decided to give them a call. Robert and Beth at Wild Women were quick to respond to email and they did have some rooms left, so we booked with them. We would book with them again if the weeks lined up again. We ended up with a classic gardenview room on the nude side which I think is what we'd book again when we return next time.
We booked our flights with Transat direct from Toronto. The flights were expensive due to March break, but they were a little cheaper because we flew out on Monday. We decided to ignore the advice and skip the Club Mobay and also to go with the standard bus trip. This worked out very well for us. Since it was March Break and there is a lot of traffic in and out of MoBay they had every counter staffed at immigration and we flew through the line at a walking pace. After immigration, we walked out and found the counter for our bus, the lady there was expecting us and told us our names as we walked up to the counter before we could even open our mouths. She quickly went outside to check on our ride and was back in to escort us out to the bus/van she had held for us. Our bags got put on the minibus and 30 seconds later we were moving. We were 2 of the 5 people on the bus.
I was really glad that we didn't pay anything extra for Club Mobay as I think they would have had us wait for the next bus, or we wouldn't of saved any time using them anyway. We seriously were wheels down on the plane to rolling in our minibus within 35 minutes. I think during slower seasons when they keep less staff on hand, the lineups can be really slow and the buses go less often so the air-conditioned Club Lounge might be good if you had to wait for the next bus.
Our Virgin Trip: We arrived at the resort just before noon. Our room wasn't ready so we strolled down to the prude grill for some lunch. I'm glad we had some shorts and stuff in our carry-ons to change into. After eating we returned to the front desk who confirmed our room was now ready and we followed our bags there while the bellhop gave a brief rundown of where everything was.
Our room was as we expected from the pictures and reviews. A little dated with a big bed, clean sheets and a manic shower which can't decide what temperature it wants to be set at... you can try to change the temperature, but good luck. don't bother calling the front desk to have it fixed... it changes day to day all on it's own depending on its mood.
After a quick unpack, we changed into our bathing suits which we were not going to wear for much longer, and took the long way to the nude pool. We walked around to the prude beach and towards the nude side. Remembering people's advice on this forum, we dropped our clothes and marched naked down the beach without shame. I strongly recommend going to the nude side on the first day. We were comfortable right away, and we didn't meet anyone who didn't get comfortable within a couple minutes their first time. It really is a very different experience on the nude side, more fun in my opinion.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at the nude pool which is what we ended up doing every day of our trip. We met some fellow Canadians within a couple minutes at the pool and we hung out with them a lot during our trip. Within 30 minutes of being at the nude pool we were sitting 2 feet away from a blowjob in progress... it was happening just behind my wife, when I told her to turn and look, she was close enough she could have licked it too. There was plenty to look at everyday, although nothing really offensive or in your face (with the exception of the afore mentioned BJ which I guess was literally in my wife's face).
Before dinner on the first day I started to feel nauseous. I have no idea if it was the slightly undercooked Jerk Chicken I had for my first meal, the couple of sugary drinks I had at the pool, a touch of heat stroke, the fact that we had been up since 3am, the flu which I though I had gotten over 3 days before our trip, or a combination of any of these things... either way, I didn't feel good and it lingered for two and half days of our five day trip. I never actually threw up or had severe diarrhea, but I felt bloated, nauseous and couldn't really eat much or drink alcohol. I stayed on the OTC drugs we brought along and drank mostly club soda. luckily it didn't hit me as hard as it did others and I was still able to function and enjoy our holiday.
Everyday we met some new people, had some interesting conversations, did plenty of flirting. Most people at the resort are regular people with an open mind about sex. I was amazed at how many regular conversations we had with people. For some reason I was thinking that most people would be secretive about their life back home, but everyone is open about it... we quickly were too. After all, who are these people going to talk to? Answer: No one we know who would care. There is a sense of freedom which comes with this and it feels great. Don't take this the wrong way however, it's not hard to offend someone by saying or doing the wrong thing... but you are free to like whatever you like between consenting adults and no one is likely to judge you for it.
Drama... luckily we didn't have any of our own as my wife and I are generally on the same page and we communicate well and are accepting/forgiving when we're not. On morning 3 around 6am the couple next door to us were having a massive screaming match. It sounded like one of them had gone further than their agreed boundaries (all too common at Hedo, and very dangerous). A couple minutes later we heard the sound of luggage rolling out and some final "Fuck you's" as the man left solo. We know of at least 3 other similar incidents where people went further than they were allowed to and some drama resulted. WARNING TO ALL... know your limit and play within it... applies to more than drinking and gambling.
The food... I was a little disappointed. Some people on here had raved about the food, maybe because it used to be worse. The food at Hedo is OK, better than a Cuban all-inclusive, but I didn't find anything really spectacular which would compare to a 5 star in Mexico or Dominican. There was a lot less variety at the buffet than I'm used to, but it was OK and you could find enough to fill your plate. The new Flame grill was my favorite and was my best meal at the resort. The nude grill was also good and we ate lunch there nearly everyday. They did have a lobster night on the Friday and they close all the other restaurants that night. All the people who like lobster enjoyed that night, I wish they had more selection of "turf" to go along with the "surf". But who cares, no one is going to Hedo for the food!!!
The shows... we watched the show pretty much every night. They were good and on par with any of the shows you'd see at other resorts... but sexier. Winston really does do a good job. The shows are right in the middle of the dining area for the buffet. My only complaint is the acoustics of that space... it's nearly impossible to understand people when they are speaking on stage... it's much more clear when they are singing though and the music doesn't sound all distorted either.
The theme nights... we packed stuff for nearly all the theme nights and getting my wife dressed up all slutty for dinner and afterwards was my favorite part of the trip. There was lots of participation from the women the week we went, us men dress up as best we can, or not at all. The theme nights were kind of messed up because the Amigos/Wild Women had their own themes separate from the regular resort themes and they also changed some of the regular event schedule like the glow party to other nights which made things kind of confusing. In the end, as long as the girls were dressed sexy, no one is complaining.
My favorite night was the foam party. This was partly because it was the first night that I was feeling back to normal, but mostly because it was so much fun. I haven't been out dancing in 15 years... there is no point, I can't pickup any girls anyway... but at Hedo? We were in the foam from 11pm and we were one of the last ones there at 3am! Both my wife and I had fun dancing with a whole bunch of naughty mostly naked people... on this dance floor, I could pickup! The next time we go, I am NOT missing the foam party... but I will take more precautions... put some lotion on before going into the foam to protect your skin (maybe even baby oil... as creepy as that sounds), and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize after you get back to your room. Most people came out of there with really dry skin (the soap and glycerin strip all the oils from your skin) and one of our new friends got an actual penis injury from this. The skin on his cock got so dried out that it peeled and he had what basically resembled a blister (to be fair, he was wearing a bathing suit with a mesh liner and he was doing lots of grinding). Mine wasn't as bad, but I also had some skin issues where I normally don't and it wasn't due to any bathing suits.
Swinging... although we were open to playing with other couples (and we did some soft stuff, refer to foam party above) we were kind of waiting for the more experienced people to come to us. As it turns out, swingers aren't really out there to convert people to the lifestyle... I should have known this. If you seem shy and say that you're not really in the lifestyle, people don't really pursue that with you. They'll be friendly, flirtatious, respectful and WILL WAIT FOR YOU NEWBIE TO MAKE A MOVE. If you think about it, no one wants to be pushy or offend one of the couples who just aren't into that sort of thing (there are many couples there who are strictly monogamous). My advice to anyone trying to get into the lifestyle or have an experience when your at Hedo... don't be shy about it, make your own opportunities, they are not likely to just come to you.
Overall Summary: Hedonism is a special place. You feel anonymous while being naked, telling people your real name and a whole bunch of personal details. You'll be surrounded by people who believe they look sexy... which I think IS really sexy and gives you the ultimate ability to believe you're sexy too. Most of the resort is 3 star, but the nature of the resort fosters an atmosphere of freedom and sexiness which makes it the most fun resort I've ever been to. I had a fun, sex filled week with my wife and had some fun with a bunch of people we met on our trip. Even though I didn't feel well for half the trip and it was only 5 days, it was the best trip we've had ever! It makes all our other trips seem less fun and it will make it difficult to go anywhere else because we will feel obligated to compare them to Hedo.
We will return to Hedo in the coming years because of the following... "a bad week at Hedo is still better than a good week at Sandals"
(P.S. we actually got married at Sandals Ocho Rios and it is a beautiful resort, but we heard this quote and liked it).
