    sand fleas

Hello. We are headed to Hedo in April and were wondering how bad the sand fleas are at that time of year. Fleas tend to eat me alive so I would like to be prepared for the little pricks. Curious to see what has worked as a repellent and also if they find their way into the rooms..especially if you are ocean view. Thanks a bunch!!!

Depends what you taste like, I guess LOL. The wife and I spend hours in the shade on the beach. I get eaten alive, she, on the other hand is left totally alone. Deet is my friend, it does work. The rooms are flea free. The only problem is when you,re on sand.
We are there the last two weeks of April, as usual. I hear B12 works, start taking it a few weeks before arrival.

I have always heard about the sand fleas.Do they bite more in the daytime or the night time? Are they more prevalent during certain months of the year? I have yet to encounter one and have met maybe 2 mosquitoes in three trips so far. Some people swear by B vitamins and garlic.

We've never had a problem. If they would go after one of us it would be my wife. I've read on here that it's mostly a night time thing. I'm sure others can help you with more info.

No-See-ums, never seen a flea, but those little bastards will start chewing on your ankles anytime they are in the shade when it starts to get cool. Almost any good repellent will stop them, but who wants that stuff on them, while nekkid, while on vacation.

Sand fleas generally come out at sunrise and at dusk.

I get eaten alive every trip...between no-seeums and sand fleas. My husband, who is in all the same places I am all week, doesn't get a single bite!

The fleas ALWAYS get me. I avoid the sand right after a rain storm and right after sunset because once the temp drops they come out like little tiny armies. Also, I tend to notice them under the beach chairs in the morning, because it's shady and damp there. I use Avon's skin so soft and just put it on my legs and it works miracles. I still get bit, but not so much that I am covered like I was the first two trips.
Keep in mind that scented body sprays, oils and some fruity perfumes will attract some insects to your yumminess. SO, be careful when choosing fragrances.
Also, I notice some activity in the dining room under the tables as well after sunset. So, just make sure your lower half is sprayed or lotioned up when you go have dinner and you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the b12 and bring lots of repellant. Hopefully that will work. I just hope they don't find their way into our room or our bed. We are ocean view...

Never heard anyone complain about biting things in their room, well insect ones anyway. You might get an occasional gecko, and ants if you spill a coke and don't clean it up for a couple of days, fleas, mosquito's, no see ums, not likely

    No worries, it's nice there

    Cheers

I learned the hard way that sand fleas in Galveston love coconut scented sunscreen.....quit using it, they don't bother me.

Oh I get bit in our room from the noseeums all the time!

I usually sit at the dresser to put on my make up and style my hair so I've learned to spray in the area under the dresser where I sit with a bunch of Off before I sit down to get ready.

We get the Off Deep Woods wipes for the sand fleas they work very well. They eat me alive if I don't use them, my wife never gets a bite. I like the wipes because it does not blow towards others in the wind.
After I wipe my ankles down I normally put the wipe under my towel. I seems to keep those little suckers away!!

Amazon is full of products like this bracelet idea.Deet is great and I have used it but it will mess up some of your gear and or clothing depending on its composition,so check the label. Most of these bracelets are Deet Free and apparently work, plus could be used as a key keeper I would think. Not recommended for swimming though.
