    HBR First Timers

We are planning a trip in 2016 and have never been to this resort. Does anyone have recommendations on rooms and what are the busiest times of the year?

    Thanks in advance!

We went last summer for the first time. The swim up first floor rooms look nice but we saved a bit by having a second floor room. The rooms are very nice. The resort is excellent down to every detail. Food is great and if you want a change you can go next door to the El Dorado for dinner. The pool is great fun during the day. This place was not the late night party that Hedo is but was lots of fun. We plan on going back next summer.

Pingo -- Thank you for the reply. Do you plan on staying in the same room next summer or are you going to try for another room. What were your "likes" and "dislikes" about your room?

    Thanks -- qpp

We thought the room was great. There is a good selection of booze in it and a refrigerator with sodas and other drinks. If we had to come up with something negative it would be that the tile floor gets slippery when wet. So be careful when your feet are wet or the floor is wet. The room was quiet and comfortable. If they give us the same room that is fine or if we get a different room it is no problem.

One day at lunch we were talking to the waiter and asked about a Mexican dish we did not see on the menu. He told us that it would be no problem and had them make it for us. Another day we asked about the salsa they served. He told us that it was toned down for the Americans. We told him we wanted real Mexican salsa.......we got it and WOW was that stuff hot... but good.

We had a great time at HB and it is hard to find fault with the place.

I agree with Pingo, the place is wonderful! We've only gotten swim-ups, and love them due to the ease of access. Just go out your patio door and your in the middle of everything. The staff there can't be beaten. If you have a request they will go out of their way to fulfill it. We found the last time we were there that the food was far better on site than next door. My one recommendation is get private transportation. It can save you anywhere from an hour to two in transport. Minimal waiting at the airport, and no extra stopping along the way. We shied away from it due to the extra cost. But the last time it was a perk, and we will always use it now. rim1one, have you ever been to Cancun before?

Cancun airport alert. Three things. 1. When you go through immigration/customs they will give you a slip of paper. Don't lose it! You will need it when you fly back. If you don't have it it could take up to 4 hours to replace it and you'll miss your flight. 2. At one of the first checkpoints you'll have to press a button. Pray the green light comes on, if you get the red light you'll go through extra screening. It wont take much longer, it's just a strange way to do random checks. And finally 3. When you clear customs and immigration and get your luggage, you'll go through some doors and bear to your right. It is a long corridor about 100 meters long. Stay in the middle, keep straight, and say "No. Not interested!" There are hundreds of sales people dressed in the colors of the transport people You were told to look for. They will ask you if your are looking for transportation or if you need help. Just keep straight and you'll see a bank of doors that lead outside. That's where you'll get your transport. When you're outside you can ask for help finding your transport. But it is fairly easy. Whoever you book with will tell you what color shirt your transport company is wearing, go up to one of those and ask. There is a bar outside so grab a drink, or most transports will have beer for sale in the van. There are bathrooms outside so if you think you might need, go. You could sit on the van for quite a while before you leave unless you get private transport, and then it could take 2 hours to get there, depending on how many stops they make.

We are thinking of going back to HBR in early May. We went in December last time and about froze our hienies off.

How do you like the Exotic Travel club? Listening to the different "gems" talk in the hot tub last time about all the different levels, costs and options I got totally confused.

Just cannot remember if swim up rooms have jacuzzi for two. We are not into LS but might be interesting to share the tub! Been 5 years since we were there.
