Just saw on the Denny P site a thread saying that lot of people are being bumped to other resorts. Anyone know anything about this? We have been many times and never had that problem. Sure hope it wont happen this time![/B]

we have heard of some ppl being bumped before for a night or 2 but we have never had that problem... thinking it could be if you book with a group your fine... if your booking with the resort you could get bumped.... maybe we are wrong but thats what we see it...

The charter agents who run sell out weeks are given priority on rooms. Most offer a no bump garauntee when offering rooms. If you are not part of the group you run the chance of being bumped. If you book with the rsort the best protection is to arrive at the hotel early.if you are already at the resort they will not bump you when a new group roles in. Hence why there is sometimes a gap and bumping occurs at high turnover times.
Pretty much correct. We were there in April of this year. 4 members of our group got bumped to Point Village, even though they booked with a "Charter Agent" and had a no bump guarantee.
Typically these TA send a local rep to the resort. These reps request and book all the rooms for their incoming guests for that day as soon as the rooms become available. Hence guest arriving late in the day with their group, already have their assigned rooms. If not enough people check out, bumping occurs.
Our friends however, beat the TA rep to the resort (in fact she was on the same plane with them, but took a bus instead of a Taxi). Because of that, the rep had not been on site early enough to have requested their rooms, it was a busy Sat, and all the vacant rooms had been occupied.
This happens during sell out weekends, when groups over lap for one or two days. If everyone arrived and left on the same day, it wouldn't be a problem.
We always arrive on a Friday, on a non sold out week, and leave on a Monday.
It's pretty hard for a resort to turn away a 1 week reservation, because one or two days have over laps.
As a side note, if you get bumped, you can negotiate the compensation, if you're aggressive, you might get a good deal.
Rumor has it that H2 has a standing reservation at Point Village, and even sends over it's own house keeping staff to take care of the rooms.

They actually own a few of the rooms and yes they send staff over to clean them. We arrived on an overbooked day last year and instead of someone else getting bumped we went to over there. Not a great place and hedo should send a phone over with the people they send there for safety reasons. No way to reach anyone. Just my 2 cents
we remember you guys going over there.... as for the phone we use our phone when we are there.... we just puts a little package on it with 150 mins and alittle data and 150 text... at least that way we can use it when we are there....

To return the station dial back to the topic: this week there are 7 groups booked into Hedo. My guess is that some (maybe several or all) oversold their contracted allocation expecting that Hedo could "handle" their overselling of a few rooms. Then the reality arrives. All these extra folks show up and Hedo mgmt needs to scramble. Hopefully, the TAs that overbooked their contract are absorbing the extra costs.
Mac --- Bad? No. Sarcastic? Hell yes!
Passion4Diving, why would you assume it's the Travel Agents and not the resort itself that over-commits? either through their own bookings, at top dollar, or by over-allotting to the TAs?
Just curious...
Yeah not really the way it works. The TA book their rooms through Hedo, it is Hedo that oversells the rooms. It is not like the TA just say how many rooms they book the week before they go. Once you book your room with a TA that info is passed on and confirmed with Hedo, so it is not the TA's fault when rooms are overbooked. And just cause there are 7 groups there does not mean it is sold out. Some groups only book 10/15 rooms for the week, others are much higher.
I can ditto macs thoughts. The ta contract for 100 rooms. If they do not sell them all. They can return them to hedo mgmt before a set date. If they wait to long they run the risk of eating the room and their margin(profit). Hedo then walks a tight rope trying to plan how many rooms will be returned vs their presold reservations. I find it easier to come in a day ealy, stay down the road, and enter the resort around 9am for breakfast.
On a side note, i did this. No room was ready. They tried to bump me. I walked into lorna's office.reminded the desk put me off, and the nect room was mine. They put me in h block.
