This trip was quite different from our first virgin trip to hedo last august where we booked online through travel site and had a packaged deal....direct flight from toronto, transfers and resort.
For this trip we tried things a little different, booked our own air on southwest from detroit via baltimore to mobay (closer for us than to use toronto) and although we arent used to layovers and changing planes, it was pretty easy and the day didnt seem that long. we utilized mobay club for both in and out....what a breeze even for arrival on a saturday mid afternoon....our assistant was great and we were off the plane and through the lines and in front of the tim air desk with in 20 mins. We also splurged for this trip and took tim air both ways instead of the bus....wow, what a treat to be able to do a flyover before landing and being at the resort in a few minutes from landing was great.....it will be hard not to use them again.
The resort portion of our vacation was booked through Tom's trips...we have seen them at events around the detroit area and heard from others they are a top notch outfit. upon arrival at hedo, we were met by Nancy from Toms who handed us our package and room keys and we were off to throw our stuff in our gardenview nude room and head to Delroys. With our arrival for the Toms group on a Saturday we had the meet and greet and were filled in on all of the events going on through the week.....During Sundays evening get together giveaway night, with the help of the Tom's crew, my wife learned I had setup for a renewal of vows for the next day...so Monday we enjoyed a beautiful morning beach renewal followed by a wonderful setup taken care of by Lorna with cake and flowers and champange....whats a wedding type celebration without a reception?, so we joined Rick and Nancy and others from the Toms crew on a pub crawl.....what a hoot, we spent the entire afternoon laughing and drinking with great friends at the Spa, Pushcart and Red Dragon.
As for overall time spent, we were usually up by 7, and enjoying the sun during the morning as it seemed the afternoon was dominated by clouds and usually a shower...lunch was usually at the beach grill where we never disapointed....we did not try pastafari or harrysans this time, and never felt like there was a lack of something at the buffet. One complaint is.....need the chocolate rum balls every night.
The resort was booked full this week and it did show a little at Delroys in the afternoon, but the staff do a great job with keeping up with the demand as bet they can....we hung out by the pool most of the time and enjoy the day as it unfolds....peaceful sunshine in the morning, the first drink as some background music comes into the mix, some lunch and fun when the DJs played....Mark Maze by far blows everyone away....always great tunes and is having as much fun as the guests themselves.
As far as some of the changes we noticed from last year to now....courtyard is great, as are the new bathrooms at the pool and piano bar area. They playroom in the spa area was very nice and is a well thought out addition. We attended the glow party on the pool deck and the foam party in the disco, both alot of fun and a great way to mix and mingle. Visited the piano bar a few evenings for a few drinks and enjoyed seeing some improvements on the seating areas outside as well.
Overall a great time...liking the changes that have been made, and looking forward to returning in August.
With our time spent there, we have come to summarize the following....might even trademark it.....lol
