We're rethinking our trip after reading this....

I would think "no" because she was referring to the locals.The locals have a takeover for a few days every August to celebrate independence and they are apparently not comfortable with nudity to the extent that some of us are.

Looks like Emancipation Day is 8/1, so perhaps worth talking to your agent or resort about the issue if you decide to be there on or around that day. I know at least two groups show up on the 8th and nakedness will be abound ;-)

Ah, there lies the issue... we're booked from 7/31 to 8/7
We didn't know about the local takeover... rethinking our booking

We noticed some of the same things the poster commented on in your quoted post...being there at that time we learned that it seems the rules were bent for some which made some others uncomfortable. It did not ruin our trip but we did feel bad for those whom were taken aback and upset. Hedo is a place that should always be about welcoming everyone...but that's assuming everyone knows and respects what is expected behavior and etiquette.

I asked this question on the hedo forum on their website. From what I was told the locals are not given any special rates this year and no special plans at this hotel, parties all over negril planned. Last year we ended up being there during bloom week and before we got there people were like oh no terrible week you need to cancel, I would never go then bla bla bla...it was a great week and the bloom group was fine

That was our post...

We did notice a distinct change in the vibe of the place after the AWOL group left and before the next group arrived for the 8th. There was no group there and there were a lot of locals in there for Emancipation Day/Independence Day. To us, there was a relaxing of the rules regarding clothed people on the nude side and the use of cell phones was apparent all over the resort; more local on site means more people have cell phones. But by the end of that week the place changed again more into what we have enjoyed in the past.

Like I said in the original post, we will go back to Hedo, but we will try and avoid the 1st week of August. But that's just us. You may have a fantastic time there during that week.

We wil be there August 15-22. We did a few guest pass days in 2012 during Tantra Week and it was a blast. This will be our 2nd time staying at the resort.

For those of you who are going to be there on Monday, Aug 10, we are hosting a sexy "white elephant" gift exchange as an ice breaker with the Some Like It Hot Group in the afternoon by the nude pool.
