Depends what you're looking for, Pearl is a beautiful upscale resort but it's very quiet. If you want to have a quiet relaxing time together as a couple you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for more of a party atmosphere with genuine, friendly people then you should really check out Hedo.
Thanks for the advice. We will likely stick with Pearl for our first adventure and see where it goes from there.
I think I saw some Desire Pearl photos where there were bicycles. Does anyone know if there are bicycles and/or snorkeling gear available to guests at the resort?
We stayed at Desire Riviera Maya last year and did a day trip to Desire Pearl. The two are different in that Pearl is quieter and somewhat more subdued and spaced out (layout) in general, vs a more crowded and party filled atmosphere at RM. The jacuzzi area at Desire RM is definitely more heated and crowded, but the one at Pearl was also nice. We actually liked the contrast of Pearl and will consider it as a stand alone trip another time, but are trying Hedo 1st week of February.
What I would suggest since it's your first time, stay at Pearl but take a day trip to Desire RM for the day and even for one of the evening parties to get a flavor of the atmosphere there - best of both worlds!
