As I was saying (just got booted) People have been smoking reefer at Hedo for thirty years, I don't think that is the reason or they'd ban it on the beach. The Jamaican Gov't is in the process of decriminalizing reefer as we speak and they want it done before the first of the year.

Several Medical Marijuana interests are already there negotiating with the Gov't to have large commercial grows.

    Cheers

Given how bad those bartenders have it smoke wise, it's a great move.

I just walk away when people start smoking. Keeps me social AND migraine free!

I'm with you, Philly Girl. Never been a smoker and I don't deal with it well. I normally move away from the smoke. Less is better for me. But I won't tell you what to do and not do.

    Heading home March 7th!!

That's great news for Jamaican's. It's another industry and more jobs! And it's great for pot smokers who are otherwise law abiding citizens. However I am totally pro-smoke free zones (that includes all smoke).

I've been vaping for about 6 months now. One day I was a pack a day smoker, then the day I got my vape I quit and haven't missed it at all. After the much cleaner taste of the vape I doubt I could get through a cigarette now if I tried, but I'm not going to take that chance just in case. I love being smoke free. Bringing extra batteries, my charger, lot's of e-juice flavors, extra carts, and even an extra tank. I've actually thought of bringing an extra mod just in case I lose it or drop it in the pool or something. Being prepared with my vape is the best way for me to not go back to smoking - especially while on vacation and drinking. I enjoy kissing so much more now as I am not paranoid about ashtray breath. Yay!

It's decriminalization not outright legalization. Probably means everyone can smoke with impunity (like we don't already). The good part is now the Jamaican's can have a nice legal industry as the Gov't is planning on making the medical bud industry a legal business and are instituting their own medical marijuana program, and if they have reciprocity with tourist travelers from the states, some of us card carrying medical marijuana certificate holders may be stopping at the Mo'bay dispensary for some green on the way to the resort. My how things change, first time I went to Ja there was no A/C at the airport and you had to run across the tarmac to the terminal.

    Cheers

Awesome! I hope lots of smokers make the switch. It's totally inoffensive and, as log as the law doesn't get in the way, can be done anywhere without interfering with people around it.

Thanks for clarifying. The distinction is important. When I heard marijuana would be legalized in Jamaica, I researched it myself and came to the same conclusions as you.

That's awesome news for the Jamaican people (lots of jobs created: growers, sorting/packaging/production, retail, advertising, real estate for dispensaries, fast food - lol) and for people that smoke. My daughter lives in Boulder, CO where recreational use has been legalized by the state and local governments (it's still illegal as far as the DEA is concerned) and there are lot's of dispensaries - seemed like one on every corner. We went to one and the product selection was mind blowing - plants, oils, edibles of all kinds of varieties and different THC and cannabinoid levels. It is a great way for CO to make money through tax dollars (I think they made like 3x's what they estimated they would make the first quarter) and also great for the medical user as the street versions tend to be bred to produce higher THC levels (in general, the mind high component) where many of the more medicinal varieties are bred to have higher cannabinoid levels (in general, the pain relieving/muscle relaxation component). Now there is a larger market for both types and growers can afford to produce plants of both types.

As far as Medicinal goes Jamaica has great potential as the weed they grow is Sativa which has great value as a medicine (Jamaican's have used it for generations) It is much more suited to outdoor growing as well.

Maine has certified medicinal users and has allowed the peeps to compete with the dispensaries by being a Medical Marijuana Caregivers (which I am), it's not a big money maker at all, but the state is certainly benefiting from the fees upon fees that must be paid. We are also slated to be the next legal state as the $$$ people that backed CO and Wash. are coming here for 2016. My city has legalized possession which is a hoot as the state doesn't recognize it, and the state has legalized medicinal but the fed's don't recognize it, all the while the ACLU (which has an office here) is threatening the city and state, it's laughable. I had a serious problem with a tenant and his illegal grow, but because he claimed he was legal the cops wouldn't lift a finger, I had a cop tell me, Attorney general of the US doesn't care, the President doesn't care, the State's attorney general doesn't care, nobody cares anymore. Sorry we can't help, Hallelujah, never thought I'd hear that.
