This is the second of our two trip reports. We thought it would be helpful to provide our take on Hedonism 2 from both our viewpoints.
Resort: The property is tropical but only moderately landscaped. A lot of areas could use some manicuring and lawn care, especially to get rid of the ant hills. Some well-placed flowering plants and shrubs would add nice color. Maintenance staff was visible cleaning, fixing, painting, or doing general upkeep throughout the day. The resort was larger than I thought but was very enjoyable to walk. We spent a good amount of time going up and down the beach area in the mornings.
Note from Karen: I did struggle a bit walking to dinner on some of the slopes in platform shoes and high heels. You may want to consider staying with 3" or less on the heels.
Room: I originally booked an OVP but decided to upgrade to OVP Premium and in my opinion it was well worth it and the resort should have more rooms of this type. . We had an end unit, second floor with terrace in the 1200 block. We never missed a day playing on that terrace. The room was nicely decorated but suffered from maintenance issues from day one (a/c, light switch, shower water hot/cold). These were never completely resolved and were irritating but did not distract from Karen and I having a good time.
Note from Karen: The lights in the vanity were not bright enough for putting on makeup. I loved the ceiling mirror but wish there were more wall mirrors for dressing. The terrace was great and I had loads of play fun out there.
Beach: The Prude side was more spacious and seemed less susceptible to the seaweed and urchins. The Nude side was much more crowded with loungers packed closer together. The staff was very diligent raking and cleaning the beach areas. The lounge chairs were very nice (looked new) and never in short supply. Walking in the water was a challenge due to the sea urchins. There were several people that stepped on these nasty little creatures every day we were there. The water is not as clear and colorful as on other Caribbean islands we have visited.
Note from Karen: I loved the beach because the water was calm and allowed me to pose for lots of pictures. We hardly used the lounge chairs because we just used floats for our sunning. Richard loved playing with me while floating on the water.
Floats: Many of the mats were torn or ripped and really need replacing. Also, there never seemed to be enough of them to go around especially on Saturday when several new groups came in. To this point, chairs and mats started being saved for the whole day without being occupied, even at the pool. Guests would simply place their paint rock on the chair to claim. It became such an issue on Sunday with many guest were very vocal complaining to security who just started to remove mats from chairs that no one was sitting in. I have never seen this type of behavior at any resort in the past and I did discuss this with management. For those that were visiting from 22 November and beyond and block chairs and floats with no real intent to use them, you should be ashamed of your behavior. It was thoughtless and selfish of you and you impacted many of the other guests that were there to have a good time just as you were.
Note from Karen: I approached security on Sunday regarding no available mats and we had to walk down to the prude side before we found one. And this was at 8:00am. Some of the chairs I say claimed on the nude side where marked the night before when we walked to the hot tub. This really was an annoying issue and management should put a stop to it.
Bathrooms: The nude side bathrooms were not as bad as some have stated in past reports. They are heavily trafficked so it is expected that they would not be pristine. Staff was observed servicing the rooms throughout the day. I have no complaints on any of the other public bathrooms on the property.
Note from Karen: I thought the nude pool and main dinner room bathrooms were gross smelling. It seemed the main dining room bathroom was worse. The new bathroom by the Wine Bar was beautiful.
Food: All the meals offered in the dining room had a nice selection of good quality and variety. The Italian restaurant was average and the Japanese restaurant was on par with most I have been to back home. The prude beach grill was excellent, in particular the jerk chicken.
Note from Karen: I thought the selection of fresh fruit was excellent. I also loved the jerk chicken. I tried the curried goat...won't do that again. Lobster was fantastic.
Drinks: We general only drink Tanqueray gin and tonic which were always plenty strong. I did like the Red Stripe. The staff at the nude pool was excellent mixing drinks. The main dining room staff did not know how to make a Harvey Wallbanger.
Note from Karen: Make sure to bring your own cups for your drinks. I had a chocolate martini several times and they were really good. I asked for a Harvey Wallbanger which they didn’t know how to make and when they did it was with fountain orange juice mix so it sucked. I would stay with basic drinks if you want consistency.
Staff: I loved the staff throughout the resort. Everyone was friendly and helpful and always said hello. They all seemed to like working at whatever they were doing. It definitely made a difference in our experience.
Note from Karen: Everyone had a smile and was very friendly. I met one of the EC's, Denise, the second day and six days later she still remembered my name. I was impressed. Austin at the omelet station was also very engaging and brightened up the morning. I never felt uncomfortable asking for anything.
Entertainment: I found the main shows to be a bit like cruise ship shows, except for Winston's Rock Star show on Friday. In fact, considering where we were, I thought the shows were very subdued in sexual content and was a little disappointed in that respect. I also thought a good stand-up comedy act would have been a nice addition. All the performers were excellent. The music was not too loud. I did enjoy several of the nude pool acts, especially the Booty Call on Thursday. That one was hot. Karen and I are not really into sing-along so we didn't stay much at the Piano Bar. We never tried the Disco.
Note from Karen: I enjoyed all of the dinner shows which allowed us to dance and we like to dance. I did not like the Piano Bar as it was way too loud and the room really did not offer good vantage points for everyone to watch the act. I loved the nude pool activities. I thought all the performers worked very hard and really tried to get people engaged. Winston was especially entertaining and Richard and I loved his show on Friday.
Costumes: I saw many creative costumes on several of the theme nights but overall there was not a high percentage of participation. Very few men dressed up. The pirate theme night seemed to draw the most costumes. Interestingly, many people that did dress would not take part in the on-stage costume contest and I thought the EC's struggle to keep things going on several nights. Karen was great in this respect and loves getting on stage to show her stuff even if she doesn’t win anything. She wins my cheers and heart every time.
Note from Karen: I did bring several costumes and did get on stage for the contests. I enjoyed this a lot and wish more people would play along.
Bugs: We did not observe any insect issue in our room or any of the dining areas. Mosquitoes were around as I am a mosquito magnet and got hit several times during our stay. Staff did fog the beach area every day we were there.
Note from Karen: Richard is susceptible to mosquito bites; they must think he taste good just like I do. One of our Canadian friends did state there were small ants in her bathroom. I hate roaches so was on the lookout for them but never saw one.
PDA/PDS: I was comfortable with the behavior I saw during our stay. Almost all sexual activity was couples playing with each other at anytime, anywhere. I loved the fact the Karen and I could play on the beach or our terrace anytime without worrying if someone was watching. In fact, the one time someone did watch, I got a big thumbs-up and a shout out. I did see several single men but never noticed any issue with anyone. I would say there was more bad behavior driven by too much alcohol than anything else.
Note from Karen: I love having sex with my husband and we did it everywhere. And I mean everywhere. The place is so infectious that I couldn't stop myself and Richard is a true giver. I was in orgasm heaven for the whole week. I was a little concerned about the hot tub and some of the action we had read about but I found it a real turn-on. There was one foursome and one threesome the times we were there but nothing like the massive orgy I had imagined. I was approached by one very well-hung man while Richard was in the bathroom but was more concerned with him tripping on it then anything else. I never felt uncomfortable during our stay.
General Notes: We took a power strip and it came in handy. We would recommend a nightlight as the room was very dark at night. A string of battery operated lights would be nice on the terrace as there is no light at night and no power outlet outside. Bring stuff for mosquitoes if you are susceptible to bites. We may take water shoes the next time but you can avoid the urchins by just being watchful.
That’s it for our first trip. We hope everyone enjoys the read. We know some will disagree with some of our viewpoints but that’s OK with us. We had a great time, great sex, and met some great new friends. That’s really what the whole trip was about and we will be back again.
