We bring Chocolates for the staff, they seem to really like that a lot. Last year we brought some Dove chocolates and handed them out to the staff. I am sure others have more suggestions.

We still highly recommend Nood Brood though, lots of wonderful friends!
We bring bags of Dove miniature chocolate bars as well. We will usually leave a bag on the pillow every morning, occasionally with a fiver folded up underneath it.

We left chocolates on our pillows for housekeeping. And left them goody bags on our last day. And we tipped them and a few other key folks cash. Sorry for those that disagree with this. I've heard all the arguments against it. It's our choice and their choice to take it
First Trip to HEDO= 7/19/14-7/26/14
Chocolate, soap, body spray, lotions and don't forget something for their kids, coloring books & crayons, etc.

Please know when you leave stuff for the staff you have to write a note for them of what you gave and your names and room number otherwise they can get fired
We used to bring stuff for staff but now we find it easier to tip with cash since they can then buy stuff for their family or whatever they need. And I don't usually tip the staff (with the exception of the maids) until my last day. I do not want favoritism - I want to say thank you to those who stood out with excellent service. But be discrete since they can get fired for taking a tip
Thanks for all your advise we like to tip but really don't want to see anyone get fired
Very slippery slope here........
We like certain things on vacation. We like to be pampered and in turn we take care of who takes care of us. We don't want anything special or to step ahead of the line we just want to take care of our friends.
Get to know who helps you and become friends with them. Talk to them and understand who they are. We go back year after year and see the same folks. They are happy to see us and us them. You develop a trust or a friendship with these people so it's not like taking care of a stranger but ........... (I think you understand)
Silly example -- I keep Millions Burt's Bees lip balm in my tall drink cup. Stays nice and cold doesn't melt keeps her (and her lips) happy. Can't tell you how many times they almost threw it out chucking the old ice, but now they know me so they always look for it. Saved me tons of trouble. Thank you!
Just be sly and keep it to yourself!

Too late on the favoritism...on our trip in July it was more then obvious who was tipping the bartenders and who wasn't. I don't mind the wait because I like chatting at the bar...for others not so much. The slope is getting more slippery by the moment. Are feeling is to each there own but unfortunately it is beginning to show in the service.
Yep... Tips get you definite favoritism.
Guess one reason Hedo has the no tipping rule.
It is a pain to stand at the bar, wait your turn, and then have "Joe" ( my apologies to all Joes here on the forum) show up out of know where and get his drinks before you.
We always leave something for our room attendant, but also on the last day.

... adding the human touch.
Well with boobies like hers, just send her for the drinks And this is why I usually don't tip till the end of my stay. I am not wanting favoritism, I just want to say thanks for the service to a few over the trip that I felt went out of their way to provide great service.
We like rules are rules. When 'no tipping' is the rule, it should be kept. By some people breaking the rules, it becomes a holiday of unequals. All pigs are equal, but some are more equal than others - famously said by Animal Farm. Such is life, but let us not at the least extend this to our holidays. Now, especially the newer staff are openly asking to be taken care of, and leaves a bitter taste in your mouth even before you have started with the beer.

Totally agree with this post.If all the employees wore a name tag and guests wanted to leave them a tip at checkout with the front desk,it would make them one heck of a Christmas Bonus and also serve as an indicator to management as to who is providing the best service and who is not..........
The resort staff all take part in a weekly tipping bonus pool based on the week's revenue. The amount they receive is based on the the job they perform I believe. I have been told that on a FULL week, a bartender can take home the equivalent of a weeks salary from the bonus pool.
