This would be true of the ultra low lost airlines (Allegiant, Spirit, etc) but most will still allow you to show up without a boarding pass and have it printed at the kiosk or counter.

Despite all the advice given here you should always check with your individual airline for their policies, they all vary slightly and you wouldn't want to be stuck at Sangster with no way home ( or maybe you would )
