Lets see, historically over 8 trips, to both H2 and H3, AC not working, moved to new room, phone not working, never repaired, front door not locking, moved again, 2 days with no hot water, had to go shower publicly, tv inop, cigarette butts found under bed, not swept. Sometimes really clean rooms sometimes not. H3 should never have been closed, it was a great resort, better pools, more modern, etc. etc. While not knocking H2, its just not darn worth it anymore, as we were repeaters we could not wait to get back, then things started changing. Word of H3 sale/closing spread like wildfire, we were there for the last week, was sad. But seriously folks, everything in the room should work, you are paying for that. Nice that you will overlook it but others may not and you shouldn't judge them because of it, its not our place. Think most repeaters would stay in a tent if they had to, and that's ok too. Just not us anymore, maybe when we were younger. You cannot compare Desire RM and Pearl with Hedo, they are in 2 separate categories. Hedo rooms and grounds will never be like Desire's, and as for the service, well you have been there, you know. You should try H2 and check it off on your list of places to go to. The key to H2 is go with NO EXPECTATIONS, you are not paying for that anymore. But give it a try, good luck!

You could characterize the standard rooms as adequate, passable or sufficient. They're also dated and a little dinged up. Under normal circumstances, as people who spend an inordinate amount of time and who take a prodigous amount of care planning a vacation, that would be a deal breaker. But, this is Hedo, normal rules do not apply. Clearly no one should tolerate a broken door lock or lack of shower facilities etc… but its possible to look past the kitschy decor and cramped bathrooms and have a great time.

If you feel that this is something which will impact the enjoyment of your vacation then perhaps throw a little more money at the problem and look at one of the renovated rooms.

some find the happy side of life and some always find a problem... and bitch. Just how some are.

Karma always wins...... Look for the happy side of life and take what they give you. As you see 99.69 percent of everyone that went to Hedo rebooked, they must of been happy!

My thing -I don't go for the room or food but have never been disappointed either. Already booked for next year -what does that tell you.

Our first trip last year and we booked the ocean front, Jacuzzi, suite on the nude side. Many problems with the room, (Jacuzzi did not work, safe not working, phone did not work, ac leaked a bit, TV remote did not work, etc.). Called and explained everything to front desk. Got naked, went to beach, had drinks & 4 hours later when we returned all but Jacuzzi & phone was fixed. The next morning a brand new Jacuzzi was installed & operational by 10am as all Jacuzzi suites were getting new ones that week which is why ours was disconnected. We got a $500.00 resort credit. Phone never worked, (did not care). Bottom line, we normally put a great deal of care into room standards and hotel amenities but the atmosphere and vibe of Hedo over-rid that quickly and did not give it a second thought. Once the issues were fixed, the room was great, views exceptional and service second to none. We are back in two weeks and looking forward to it.

We've been twice and had the same room. Prude side with a new paint job, new tv, new air. Trust me your room will ok not 5 star but you won't be in that room much. We aren't the big partiers that a good percent of guest are but we pretty much slept in our room and got dresses for dinner. Total time in room not counting sleep maybe 2 hours a day. The resort is beautiful and the atmosphere is perfect. I honestly don't see why people put the place down so much. Yes the place is old. Yes the old owners didn't put money back into the place. However, the new owners are really stepping up and trying to make the place better.
For me the point of the place is to spend time together and reconnect. The friends you make is like no other place on earth. As long as we are together why should a few things that are being fixed make you so upset? Enjoy the time you have together and enjoy each other rather than point out the very few bad things. We just hope we can return next year.

Thanks for all the replies and honest insight. I will take the advice and just go and let Hedo be what it seems to be....such a fun place in the best location...Jamaica! I'll try not to compare it to any place else in my mind once I get there....I think we all tend to do that but I guess it isn't fair because it would have cost us ALOT more to go to Desire with the upscale resorts and rooms so with that in mind, I think I will just try to enjoy what makes Hedo what everyone else seems to love so much. AND, after mentioning this to my husband he said he would rather go to a place with an older room with possible room issues, but that has all the amenities like Catamaran, beautiful beach to walk and swim in, free snorkeling than to go back to Desire where there is nothing to do, nothing offered and the beach is no hell, full of seaweed, can't really snorkel, no kayaks or any type of water sports to do and alot more $$$$. Maybe we will love Hedo so much that we won't return to Desire because of the difference in value. I think we will like it a lot.....that's why we went ahead and booked it. It's just that I always check the reviews and it's just my luck that right before we go, a bunch of bad ones show up. Maybe I should stop checking and go with my gut! lol!

I will take the advice given; try out the most important things in the room such as the safe and the shower and A/C BEFORE we unpack everything. Then nude beach and drinks.......or drinks along the way to the nude beach!

Last Feb. we stayed in room 2221 (nude ocean view). I have traveled much and stayed in many a cheap motel (working construction, etc.), and I would say room 2221 was much like an older LaQuinta, Best Western, or Super 8 motel (note older, not newer). Much was dinged up, but there was fresh paint and it was clean. Other than sleeping, I guess we spent less than 2 hours per day in the room (total). When you are spending most of your time naked, there really isn't much need to be in your room "getting ready" to go out, lol. They said our phone didn't work, but I never tried to use it, planned to use it, or needed it. The AC worked just fine but the weather is mild enough that you could survive without. There was plenty of hot water (once you learn how to use the unique shower valve) and while the bathroom is not large, you can fit two in the shower comfortably. Like everyone said before, Hedo is a place where you aren't there for the room or the food, it's more about the people and the fun. You might even find that half the time you are in your room you leave the door open anyay, after all, who needs privacy?

One interesting note, at hotels in the US when housekeeping knocks on the door you hurry and grab clothes before they walk in. At Hedo, you walk out the room naked and say "good morning" to the housekeeping staff as you walk by.

We felt the water pressure and temp were amazing! A/C broke but they fixed it immediately. Room was clean and adequate. The staff was responsive to all problems and kept us updated!

Been 14 times. We always book cheapest room possible and hope for an upgrade and we get 1 about 50% of the time and have never asked. I think a lot of people are apologist for the condition of the rooms because they love the resort so much. We love the resort too and we are returning in Sept for 9 days.

However, with that said. The only time I remember our shower not making a mess on the floor was when we had a bath tub once. Good luck on ever getting the shower doors to move either open or closed once you get them in one position. The bathroom door will be rotted and decaying. There will be chips in the tiles. The A/C has always been hit or miss. On our trip in May, the temperature would reset to 76 deg about every 2 or 3 hours. Was a bitch to have to get up in the middle of the night to turn it back down. We complained about it several times and someone would come by but it was never fixed. One day the A/C was out for over 24 hours. The room was uncomfortable to sleep. A couple of trips ago, we had no hot water for 3 days and showered outside at one of the clean up showers. Any other place, we would be hopping mad. Here, we just say, "well that's HEDO". Should be unacceptable but those are the facts.

Even with all those "bad" things, we still look forward to our trips and can't wait to return. We just hope for the best. Sometimes I think I need to get my head examined because of the amount of money we pay to stay in what is essentially a glorified Motel 6 that allows nudity. But I won't deny, we ALWAYS have fun.

From my last two trips with Kitten/Angel group I would rate room as adequate, food more than adequate, people "off the chart!".Oh,and the entertainment most of the time is outstanding!

we have been there 4 times so far and we have never had a problem with water in the room, our A/C always worked great. as for a phone in the room we have never checked it to see if it works or not but even if it do we don't use it...not sure what you mean be guest getting their own drinks?. but 4 trips all great so far.

There is one review in particular that is saying that the good reviews are from people that are overlooking all of these things that should be in good working order just because they are going to meet friends or groups. I did take a peek at what else was available for our dates because even though I am not going for the room, I don't wan't to have to change rooms 10 times to get one that has the basics in it. Plus we are booked for 13 nights and we have never been to Hedo so I am thinking we might have wanted to try out 7 nights. I know how many Hedo lovers there are but is it true that a lot of the repeaters honestly haven't been to other nude resorts because you are so dedicated to Hedo and the groups?

We have been to Desire many times and to the Couples brand with their nude areas and I can appreciate that Hedo is different, but for those that have been to Desire, is it a huge difference between resorts?

Not trying to upset/offend all the loyal Hedo lovers, I'm just asking questions to be sure.

What I have found about reading reviews for places I haven't been - take away the top 10 percent and the bottom 10 percent - and you get a better idea of what to expect. Of course, we love Hedo - we say we will still go if we have to sleep in a tent and eat beanie weenies (and we are not campers). It is all about the friends you haven't met yet and the friends you have been seeing for years. We are getting ready for our 10th trip in 5 years and unless the prices get up there with the price of Desire, we will continue to vacation at Hedo. Don't let the little things cause you to have a bad vacation. Go with the flow - Hedo is a great experience.

Ha! Sounds a lot like boating. You rough it,get naked &shower off the back of the boat with somewhat warm water. Hell we'll be right at home like when we are on the water. I can tell most people from here clearly could not survive a weekend on the water. Lol! We will be in our element.
