    Types of Flights

There is always discussion on how much someone paid for their air tickets or what a reasonable price is. During these discussions, there are always terms thrown out that may cause some people some confusion. When discussing airline flights, there are actually three types of flights: non stop, connecting and direct.

Non Stop: I think we all know what this means. You board a plane in City A and your only stop is City C where you want to get off. Yes, I know non stop is a strange term because that plane has to stop at some point.

Connecting: You board your plane in City A. The plane lands in City B where you get off and move to the next gate for your second flight that will take you to City C where you want to get off.

Direct: I see a lot of people using this term when they really mean to say non stop. A direct flight is where you board a plane in City A. Your plane lands in City B BUT you stay on board that plane while other passengers are let on. That plan then departs City B and takes you to City C where you want to get off.

There is a big difference between a DIRECT flight and a NON STOP flight.

Of course there's the Canadian way: you book the vacation and it includes the air and the ground and the hotel -- and you "don't have to worry about a TING".

But neither can you get home earlier if you decide that Hedo's not for you. Still trying to decide after 30+ years, Can't make up my mind. I'll try it once again.

Or if you live in the Great White North you need to drive forever to get to City A, then fly through City B, and possibly C (and maybe D) in order to get to City E - which in this case is Montego Bay.

The joys of not living in a Hub City, or in the Southern US.

True for you guys out in AB but here in Manitoba we're fortunate to have three different airlines (Westjet, Air Canada, and Air Transat) with 4 1/2 hour non-stop flights from YWG to MBJ, and all offer packages as PNK points out. This is during the winter months only, any other time we have to connect through YYZ. We're spoiled for choice and makes it very easy to get to our favourite vacation spot. It's usually cheaper to book an package than it is to book with a Hedo group and then buy your airfare separtely which is why we seldom do a group trip.

Which is why this year we are flying out through Manitoba. Drop the kids off with family in Saskatchewan on our way through to the 'Peg for our flights.

This might work for you.... Sunwing will be offering direct flights from Saskatoon and Regina to MBJ this coming winter.

How about a 'flight of fancy'?

I fancy a trip to Hedo right now -- but we'll have to wait a few weeks. Non-stop YYZ - MBJ via Westjet's late afternoon flight, arriving ahead of the midnight buffet, July 10 - 17.

Do I look out for the "bright pink blinged out cowgirl hat" or the thong around the ankles? Don't trip!
