Fees for late departure from resort

Has anyone had to pay an extra $100 each to stay past 2:00 pm the day you leave? We received an email from our travel agent stating that since we have a late departure it would cost an extra $100 per person to stay at the resort past 2:00 pm? We would have to leave around 4:30 or 5:00 pm I find it very expensive for an extra 2.5-3 hours.... Has anyone else heard of this?

I am guessing that is IF you want to stay in your room. If you check out at the regular time they will usually hold your bags for you out front and you are free to wonder around the resort. I do believe they will even provide you with a place to shower before you leave. Just call the resort directly to find out. I have the direct number if you want it.

We have left at 5:00pm the last three years without paying an extra fee. We did though check out at noon and leave our bags up front, keeping our carry-ons (and valuables) with us at the pool.

We had the same experience as Face Down 2 years ago. We checked out and left our bags in the lobby, kept our carry on with us and were told we could use the Spa to shower and change before we departed...no extra fee.

I too have not heard of that , but many people will stick around as long as they can. Had to be for your room.... There is always a place to shower up and get ready for the ride home.

We had to pay a couple of years ago but we were also staying until midnight.
I would haggle with your travel agent because the day pass is cheaper than that - or was.... $100 for male $50 for female I think.

All hotels have a check out time usually 12:00 noon, if you want to keep the room then expect to be charged. Also remember the new people coming in. How many times have you seen or heard of people not having a room available when checking in and being sent up the road. this room holding situation helps cause that.

But a day/night pass STRICTLY forbits you from the guest rooms. So what wouldn't work

We didn't have a room. It just let us stay on the resort until midnight. Really didn't want to spend 12 hours at the airport and we just put our bags in our friend's room until it was time to leave.

Thanks everyone for the replies and the info.
We don't need our room and we told the travel agent that but she still thought we would have to pay to stay on the property. I never thought to mention that a day or night pass was only $150 per couple.
Last year we were out of our room by noon and they let us keep our bags at the front desk for about 2.5 hours while we hung out at the pool for no charge, but I didn't know if things had changed with the new ownership.
I'll let you all know how this works out.
    Thanks again

I am sure it will still be the same as it was last year. They are probably trying to sell you the room for that time, that is all that makes sense. Just don't pay now and go and see what happens. I am sure you will still be able to leave your bags and go around the resort. If not they are going to have people coming in to rooms not ready since people will be keeping them for several extra hours. Just doesn't make sense.

You are eating their food, drinking their booze and creating maintenance. Why wouldn't they charge?

    Just playing devil's advocate. ..

Think a little deeper on this. What happens when you get to the resort a 10:30 in the morning, are they going to charge us? Then they should credit people that leave before breakfast or get to the resort after dinner. I feel if your out of your room by noon the food and drinks you use will be offset by ones not there yet or have left early.

We have left the last 2 years at 2.30 or 3 and we take tim air.
We Check out -give them our bags with what our plans are.

We stashed our stuff in bibabes room and had a few good hours
Changed and left at 3 -- no added cost. Taxi -to timair -- in Mobay by 3.30.

We were there for 8 days and are a returning customer so... it would be silly to jack my ass for 3 hours.

Here's a thot along Hedo RC's line of reasoning=If you get there midday or late afternoon on your first day they could still spot you a meal and be either one meal ahead or break even.Come to think of it,we left at 1 pm on a Sunday and nothing was said or charged although we were out of the room by noon.
