We just returned from our fourth trip to H2 in four years, and our second trip with Jon’s Fluffernutters; we have never done a trip report before, but feel compelled to this time because we are so excited by what we experienced this trip.
First of all, the Fluffs throw a great party, and we are already hoping the vacation gods smile upon us so that we can make next year’s July trip as well. The resort was at or near capacity and the vibe is one of people who are all there to have the time of their lives. We met one “virgin” couple who we had lunch with several times during the trip, and on Monday, the wife told her husband that they would not be coming back – by Thursday, they were saying they couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else! I share that anecdote only to give an idea of what a fun group the Fluffs are to hang with.
In terms of the resort – a year ago we were concerned because it was clearly in a state of entropy. Full disclosure here – the Jon of Jon’s Fluffernutters is the new CEO of Hedo – and the turnaround in the short time the new owners have been in place is nothing less than astounding. How so? Let me be specific:
The service – when dining in the main area, my water glass was never empty long, the tables were cleaned quickly, and there was always plenty of silverwear and cloth napkins (a year ago this wasn’t the case). Moreover, the attitudes of employees were universally positive, and dramatically different than last year. Our room was cleaned promptly every day and our maid was a delightful, friendly woman.
The food – well, we never made it to one of the restaurants this trip. We ate in the main dining room and at the nude beach. The food was great, and the variety and quality of items at the buffet during lunch made it worth leaving the nude pool on the occasions we could pull ourselves away. For example – Curried Goat was on the lunch menu the day we arrived – in previous trips that dish was reserved fro dinner, not lunch. The variety of baked goods available also was so tempting I will need to spend a lot of time in the gym next week. There is also now a pizza late at night over by the nude pool and hot tub.
Updates: New cushions in the dining room, new beach chairs, ample beach towels with no silly card-exchange system, and a 40” flat screen TV were all in place (not all rooms have the new TVs yet, but ours did). The grounds look great and painting was being done in various places around the resort. Additionally, there are two rooms under construction on the prude side that are models of what the remodeled rooms will be like, and they are wonderful.
For those who have been there before, there is a noticeably more positive atmosphere at Hedo – it now feels like a resort that is being revitalized rather than one in a state of decline. We are so thankful that the people who now run the resort are people who love it and who understand the charm and allure it has for those of us who go there.
We had a wonderful time – the Fluffs throw the best party one could hope for- and our six days there could not have gone more quickly.
